Chapter 3

About an hour later, she lay on her bed in her room. She looked over at her luggage that Blake brought in for her and showed her the room she’d be staying in. He was so nice to her; he even told her that if she needed anything that his door was always open and that he was nearby. Indeed he was nearby actually his room was across from hers. Also she was informed that there was another roommate that she had yet to meet and would meet soon. Their room was right next to hers so she could meet them on their way to their room if she wanted. Blake had pointed out the kitchen, bathroom and any other place she asked where it was.

So for now she sat and thought about everything that had gone on in her life. The facts of her existence weren’t pretty but whose were? She hugged a pillow on the bed and looked over at an alarm clock that Joseph had given her. It read one o' clock in the afternoon. She felt a little tired and decided she should sleep.

Upon her door was a soft knock and since Melissa was asleep she heard nothing. They opened the door slowly. There stood a man with dark brown hair and reddish eyes, his smile was warming and friendly. But he took one glance at Melissa and nearly passed out on the flooring.

He rubbed his eyes, “Is that you, Liz?!”

He walked up to her and brushed away the hair over her face. The combination of her long dark chestnut hair and small figure made him gasp. Slowly, he scurried out of the room leaving no trace that he was there.

She awoke that night and pulled herself out of bed. The stairs didn’t make a peep as she crept down them to get a ‘snack’. She read the clock in the living room in her mind, 12:00 sharp. Yes, she had awakened at the right time.

“I wonder if this town has a bar?” she speculated.

She slipped out of the front door and snooped through the empty streets. At last she found a small bar. She walked inside hoping to find someone drunk enough that no one would miss. The little card tables were almost empty. Much of them looked as if they had stayed for more than three drinks. But she decided to get a quick drink and then find a victim. She sat on a stool as the bartender came over.

“What will it be little lady?” his voice very harsh and raspy.

“A margarita, shaken not stirred.”

“Coming right up.”

He turned around and started to mix. In a minute he turned around again and handed her the drink. She sipped the pink liquid and looked throughout the tavern. So little people were at the tables but one person caught her eye. One man sat at a table all alone. He was a very handsome man with deep blue eyes that she couldn’t help but stare at. He looked lonesome but somewhat happy.

When she was finished with about her fourth drink she turned to the counter and placed the empty glass on it.

“Is that it, Hon?” the bartender asked.

“Yes.” She knew she shouldn’t drink too much or she’d never get home.

“Ok, that will be $24.”

She reached into her pocket and realized she had no money.

“The drink will be on me.” A hand came out and slapped some money on the table.

She turned around and saw the man she had been staring at all night. He looked even more attractive up close. His eyes seemed to sparkle and his hair was an awesome shade of dark red.

“Thanks.” She managed to squeeze out.

“No problem, anything for someone as beautiful as you.”

She blushed, “Is there anything I could do to make it up to you?”

“Well actually-.” he winked at her.

She thought to herself. He was just another pig of a man. She was sure he only said she was beautiful because he was drunk or even high.

“I will play a trick on him, yes that’s it, I nice trick.” She thought.

She grinned, “Sure. But I don’t want to with all these people around.”

“That’s fine with me; I know a place we can go.”

He grabbed her hand and pulled her to a side door. He opened it and let her through. Melissa, being fearless, pushed him against the wall and started to suck on his neck. Since she wasn’t going to let this go any farther she started to go downward on his neck. She found a soft spot and bit him. He squirmed, but since she was one of the few that had venom in her fangs much like a snake’s, he stopped wiggling and stood still. As soon as she was almost done sucking him dry she heard the door open.

She let him drop on the ground as she ran away. Up through the alley and across a few streets. Finally she was at her house again. She wiped some sweat from her forehead and crept inside. Lucky for her no one was awake when she dropped by. It was at least three in the morning. She had a river of blood flowing from her mouth so she ran into the bathroom which was at the top of the stairs. She washed it away and tip-toed into her room. She dropped down on her bed and fell asleep.
For now I will let the blood drip from my fingers...

Some punctuation required here....maybe "Indeed, he was nearby - actually his room was across from hers." I think "infact" instead of "actually" would fit better here, but that's my preference rather than neccessity.

The stairs didn’t make a peep as she crept down them to get a ‘snack’

Quotation marks aren't required for snack.

Yes, she had awakened at the right time.

It's "awoke" rather than "awakened"

I think some more description is needed here. What does the bar look like? What about the streets? Does it give her any feeling that it's empty? As in, is she scared a little by it? Freaked out? I don't know, I just feel this paragraph is too brief for my liking.

“What will it be little lady?” his voice very harsh and raspy.

"What will it be little lady?" he asks, his voice very harsh and raspy...sounds better because otherwise it is confusing.

“I will play a trick on him, yes that’s it, I nice trick.” She thought.

This confused me because at first he thought she was talking. I think you should format it differently, for example, use italics. Also it shouild be "I will play a trick on him, yes that's it, a nice trick," she thought. A typo and incorrect punctuation used.

Overall, I liked it, but it needs fleshing out (half-pun intended). By that I mean you need more description, more to read, because at the moment it feels like the bare bones and the reader (me) felt like I was missing out on certain parts. With a few more descriptions and a bit of editing this should be a fine piece of work.

Yes, it's very interesting. I liked it myself, but it does need 'fleshing out' as Jack so charmingly put it, after the nature of the story. I don't think there's much I can really add to what he's said ... but, you do need to make ther readers feel it. Use some metaphors and similies, describ the atmosphere (but don't go overboard, there's a fine line between too little description, and too much).

I thank you all for commenting. *bows at feet* I am not worthy! Oh and Misty Lynn I put my dialogue in green so it was easier to read, nothing special. *whispers* Plus, I think it looks cool.
For now I will let the blood drip from my fingers...
