Any Sword Fighters/Fencers out there?

After trying and failing several times, I've decided that writing fights with swords is too hard. Everything I have written seems to be dead and boring.

It's a fight between a well-trained male and a witch with mediocre training, set in an other-world medieval age. It is not a serious fight.

Are there any technical terms that should be used?

Any don'ts/cliches I should avoid?

Any do's?

Are there different types of sword? [I know a normal sword from a scimitar etc. I mean: are they named by length or something like that.]

Yes.
There's 3 weapons (that I'm aware of) in fencing. Anyone who knows more than me, feel free to say so.
The fencing FOIL is the easiest one, given to beginners, and is the center of all my (beginner) knowledge. Basically, you stab/lunge. Fencing does not slash, whip, slice, cut, etc etc. Fencing stabs. The point is the weapon, not the rest of the blade. Only the tip matters. With a foil, you stab for a target area thats a rectangle around the torso-ish. Head doesn't count. Groin, unfortunatly, does. THus, a midget versus a giant will favor the midget immensly, no offense intended to any midgets of giants reading this. Bearing that in mind, the best place to look for more knowledge than a beginner can impart is probably wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing
