Well, I'm addicted to Star Wars too, Fontroy but I thought the movie was extremely weak in places where Lucas could have just blown us away.

Reicheru wrote:What it needed was better dialogue, and less dependancy on computer effects. I think Peter Jackson has the right idea when it comes to "movie magic." Do what serves the story best, regardless of whether it's the latest technology or if it's been around since Snow White. and use photographic elements whenever possible rather than computer effects.

Definitely. The dialouge was pathetic. Padme only had one good line...but it was a pretty great one. It applies to our culture in a more subtle way, and I thought that was interesting.

One good thing was Ewan McGregor; he really nailed Alec Guiness in all the hand gestures and facial expressions. I was very impressed.

No, it was supposed to be sad. The slapstick comedy at the beginning was getting on my nerves. I think they did an okay job with Anakin's metamorphosis into Vader... some of the parts were really cheesy though.

~*~SPOILER~*~
The part at the end where he steps off the table thingy or whatever and wrenches those chains off his arms was so pathetic... He's got that Darth Vader breathing going on and then he's saying stuff like, "Is Padme all right?" And then he takes a couple of steps like Frankenstein and screams "NOOO!" That was just sad. And not boo hoo sad...pathetic sad.

I so agree with you on the part where he shouted "No" and the comedy at the beginning. I like comedy in movies, but I don't like comedy for the sake of comedy, and that's what this was. But most of his gradual transformation was done pretty well, I think. A good Canadian boy crosses the border and goes bad. How unfortunate. And I could definitely see Ewen as a young Alec Guiness in every way.

But to be perfectly honest, the preview for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe got a more emotional reaction from me than the new Star Wars. My favourite is still The Empire Strikes Back. Which got chewed up by the frickin' VCR yesterday. I'm requesting the DVD from the library tomorrow so I can watch it.
Please, sit down before you fall down.

Ooh, yes, I did get really excited about The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe-- it looks really good. But that's off-topic. Anyway.

The worst parts were when Padme and Anakin were talking to each other about their feelings...it got painful.

"You're so... beautiful." (Didn't see that one coming)

"It's only because I'm so in love," (Gag.)

"No, it's because I'm so in love with you." (I think I hit myself in the forehead at this point.)

"So love has blinded you?" (I was banging my head against the seat in front of me.)

"That's not exactly what I meant..." (Thank you, Captain Obvious.)

"But it's probably true." They laugh. I vomited.

OMG. I just saw it.. I'm with you, areida. I can't make up my mind about it. It was just so.. cheesy!

~*SPOILER WARNING!!!*~

To me, Anakin switched sides too quickly. I mean, he goes from, "What have I done?!" to "I will join you" (or whatever his lines are) within like fifteen seconds. I'm sorry, but love isn't going to blind you THAT much. The dialogue was absolutely pathetic. There were scenes meant to be serious where I could barely keep from laughing. I agree areida, that "Frankenstein" moment was really stupid. And Padme didn't exactly react the way she should have when Obi-Wan told her Anakin went to the dark side.. And Anakin actually said "Uh.." once. It was hilariously stupid. General Grievous was awesome though.. Four lightsabers.. There's another thing. R2-D2.. since WHEN can he spray tar and light fire and everything?? And why could the Jedi sense there was a trap at the beginning, but they couldn't sense that the armies had turned on them? And.. I'll stop.

Gah, I was so disappointed.. I shouldn't have this many things to pick at in the final movie (although technically it's not the FINAL.. That's Episode VI. But you know what I mean.

I agree, Crys...but just being able to stare at Hayden Christensen helped a little, even when he was doing a bad job of acting...LOL...

~*~SPOILER WARNING~*~

I think that maybe Lucas's logic between Anakin's fifteen second conversion to the Dark Side (you know what I mean...) was that he was so torn and couldn't decide what to do, so he just chose without thinking...like the indecisiveness was killing him. But yeah, it was dumb. I wish I hadn't had so many things to nitpick...it frustrated me, but wasn't too surprising.

I still think, however, that Ewan McGregor was absolutely brilliant. He saved parts of the movie and actually managed to deliver some really bad lines quite well. He's awesome.

No my Aunty lives out of Perth and I think mum would have preferred me to go with someone else (preferably an adult). If I was back at home and not at boarding school she would let me go out by myself. But if it was at night she would want me to go with someone.
