In honor of the Earth Hour event, in which people are encouraged to turn off their lights from 8-9pm in their local timezone today (29 March), Google's homepage is black, as if they've turned off all of their lights too. They're supporting Earth Hour

I think that's really cool. My parents would never agree to do it but I'll turn the lights out in whatever room I'm sitting in and I'm sure I can convince my little sister to do the same.

I realized that I said I'd be gone for only two weeks...but I was gone for much longer.I hope to stay on this time. :)

We did it from 8 to 10. Hah. It helped that our dad wasn't home... so we could turn out those lights of which he'd kill us if he saw us anywhere near them. XD

I was in Paris at the time. City of lights and they didn't do it. London did though!

If you read the thing Google provided on why their page was black and you want to keep thier page black now, you can use www.blackle.com. It's the same thing as google, just... black. Because black webpages use less energy than white ones! Miniscule energy savings FTW!! ;)

Yeah... because having your computer on and surfing Google is not wasting any energy at all from all the power it takes from running a computer...

I feel I should mention that a black google would use more energy if you're using a modern screen, I think the terms LCD but my knowledge of technology is bad ><"

But yeah, modern screen = white google!

I think that Google said the changes were only cosmetic and that changing the color wouldn't actually affect the power usage. Tech gurus?
