In a land controlled by the dark and powerful force of the Meredians, the frightened citizens wonder what has happened to the opposition, what has happened to their heroes? Have all perished at the hands of the evil dark knights and their demonic beasts or are they hiding, waiting for the chance to fight back.
Both assumptions are wrong. Deep below the surface, in the cesspits of the world where magma and sinking sand are just two of the dangers, the heroes of the past prevail. Food is scarce and water scarcer. The Meredians who watch over these pits, these crafty cells monitor the levels of food and water carefully, distributing enough for the survival of no more than half their prisoners.
Every day numbers dwindle and, to survive, the heroes have turned to the darkness that they fought. They have banded together in small groups, fighting internally for the right to their lives. Old alliances are forgotten, old friendships extinguished and only the strong may survive.
Can their hatred for the Meredians unite them long enough that they will gather together and use their strength in one final charge for victory, one final martyrdom or will they perish, gradually, slowly, forgotten to the world who already grieves for them. The conclusion is surely death but which path will our characters take? You decide.

Does that make sense? Basically, create a hero, create a back story - how long have they been in the pits? Why were they condemned there? And then we'll work on their future.
