I supposed it was just a ghost I had sensed behind me. The presence was gone now.

I made my way up to the tower, where I mumbled the password ("Arrivederci") and entered, only to find that I was not the only one with this idea. Several others were here as well, just sitting around.

I responded politely to their occassional questions, but it didn't stop me from entering the dorms, where I knew I would be undisturbed. I pulled out my sketch pad and a pencil and sat on the windowsill, looking out across the grounds and lake as I began to draw again.

(Suggestion: Perhaps we time jump into the next day? That might help move things along.)

As expected, I turned in early.

And that suited me fine. I liked going to bed early, mostly because I was a morning person.

After my long sleep, I woke up refreshed and chipper, ready to tackle the day. And although my good mood would probably extinguish halfway through my first class, I planned to cruise on my high as long as I could. I was uncharacteristically quiet as I dressed, making sure I didn't distrub my dorm mates, evening though I hated most of them. Happy Matt makes everyone's day brighter!

I slipped down into the common room--empty at such an early hour of the day, which was just how I liked it. En route to the Quidditch field, which was my typically morning destination, I saw no one apart from the Bloody Baron, who I acknowledged with small nod. He and I held a mutual respect datng back to 1st Year, when I saw him for the first time and made no reaction hinting that his appearance frightened me. Having never seen a ghost before, I was more interested han anything.

I sucked greedily at the chill, crisp air as I stepped outside. The sun was barely peeking out from behind the mountains, and I strode easily down to the Quidditch field. Upon ariving, opened my locker and grabbed the old, battered Beater's bat I used for practice--a gift from one of my magical relatives when I first made the team back in 2nd year. Returning outside, I released a Bludger and smacked it off to the left, where it turned and streaked back toward me. I hit it again, harder this time, and it wheeled back again for another go.

I could handle a single Bludger easily; I had been able to since 4th Year. What was challenging--and incredibly tiring--was beating back two Bludger's at the same time. Once I had warmed up properly with one, I released the second and braced myself, glancing at my watch just as sent the second Bludger flying. The longest I had ever lasted was eight minutes, though I had never worked myself into a pure exhaustion trying to break it (I still had to tackle the Bludgers and stuff them back into the box, after all).

But I felt good. This morning I thought I could go for ten.

Provided nothing broke my concentration.

well i think that last line looks inviting i shall just have to break your concentration...
[Felicia]

The next morning I wandered out onto the Quidditch field, on account of getting a pre-season twitch to fly. I found my broom and stuffed my snitch into the pocket of my robes. Rubbing my eyes and yawning with the broom in tow, I stepped onto the grass.

But someone was already there, the Slytherin that was one of Adri's victims this year. I shivered slightly, I didn't particularly like him but it was a big Quidditch field and I hadn't ridden in a long time...

I figured I might as well give him some warning that I was here, he seemed pretty concentrated on not getting beaten to death by Bludgers. The most he could do to me was yell right? I mean he wouldn't hex without me provoking him first, right?

"Hey you!"

"Hey you!"

I turned, taking my eyes off the nearest Bludger to identify the voice.

Thock.

Whilst my atention had shifted, near Bludger took the opertunity to sock me on the side of the face.

I swore. Really loud.

Then I dropped my bat and grappled with the offending Bludger, getting a good hold on it with my right arm before the second Bludger swept in and slammed me in the gut. Fortunately, I had been prepared, so the blow was much less severe than the first, and I was able to snare Bludger #2 with my left arm. Heaving and grinding my teeth, I wrestled the Bludgers over to the box and secured them.

I stood up, panting, face covered with sweat. Happy Matt had taken an early vacation.

I swept around, facing the person who had distracted me. Some 3rd Year I vaguely recognized because she hung around Adri sometimes and played Quidditch for Gryffindor--Seaker, perhaps? She had some weird 'F' name… Felika? Felrin? Something like that.

The side of my face pounded with anger; it would bruise, no doubt about that. Very charming addition to my facial features.

"So sorry," I called back to her, icy sarcasm pumping, "I was just a little busy with those Bludgers; can I help you with something?"

I woke when I heard Matt swear - quite loudly - from the Quidditch pitch.

He had the bludgers out again.

I got up, quickly dressed, and made my way to the field briskly. Turns out, he was yelling at my friend, Felicia, for something, and he looked pretty sore...

"Got beaten up again? Come here," I called, ready to take a look at his injuries again.

*Sorry, all I got at the momento...lol*

Well crap. That had gone well. I probably should have considered the Bludgers first...

Woops.

"Uhh.." I stuttered quietly, startled by his outburst... and my own stupidity.

Thankfully, Adri came onto the pitch at that moment, saving me from the Slytherin. "Got beaten up again? Come here," she teased casually and I gawked at her, what a strange thing to say to a guy like that. I had a feeling if I did that I would get pounded. But then Adri just has a way of getting away with everything...

(sorry, couldnt think of anything)

Wonderful. Thirty seconds away from beating my best time, and all she had to say was "Uh." Before I could start voicing my disgruntlement, however, Adri appeared behind her.

"Get beaten up again?" she said. "Come here."

Something about that statement coming from Adri kicked my brain out of Summer Mode, and I remembered that I was a wizard, capable of doing magic. So if I wasn't stupid, the side of my face wouldn't bruise, and there was nothing to worry about.

"I'm all right, actually," I said to Adri, "but thanks anyway." I drew my wand and pointing it at my face. "Episkey."

As I stowed my wand, the injury grew hot, then cooled. I felt the spot with my fingers--good as knew.

"Good," I said, eyes flicking back toward the 3rd Year. "All yours."

Then to Adri: "I just need to put my bat back; give me a sec, we can walk back up to the castle together."

I turned, snatching my practice bat off the ground and striding into the locker room, leaving the girls to talk about whatever it is that girls talk about when given a moment alone.

"Crap," I said to Adri when the Slytherin left.

"What?"

"Well, basically I just made that guy get hit in the head with a Bludger. Crap. Crap crap crap crap crap. Crap. Why do I always do stupid stuff like that?"

I laughed. "He'd do it to himself eventually, anyway. Don't feel bad!"

I pat her on the back of the shoulder.

"Besides, I can think of worse scenarios!"

"Like getting hit in the groin?" I suggested, catching Adri's last words as I swept back unto the field. "I don't know how much magic could help in that case."

For whatever reason, I felt good again. I blamed my teenagian mood swings. Or maybe Adri.

Ha. If you're betting out there, folks, put money on the latter.

Before taking off, I stopped and srutinized the 3rd Year. Then I stepped forward and offered her a hand in greeting.

"Matt Corzein," I said. "Don't worry about the Bludgers. I'll get plenty of shots to return the favor when Slytherin plays Gryffindor."

I bit my tongue, rolling my eyes for a moment. Then I shoved him playfully.

"You'll be up against me, y'know!" I teased.
