Saddest Book

What are the top three saddest books you've ever read...or just the saddest? I'm curious.

Mine (From least sad of the three to saddest):

3. Time of the Twins/Ptolmey's Gate/Summer Flame (All are sad, and i cant pick which wins.)
2. Bridge to Teribithia
1. Where the red fern grows.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
The Outsiders
Odd Thomas


(I'm not that into sad books, Odd Thomas was brillantly sad though.)

3. Blood Red Rose
2. Such a Pretty Girl
1. Impulse

(It was a hard choice...seeing as I read mostly sad books...I also write some pretty depressing stuff...I don't know why. lol. Gosh...maybe I'm emo...lol, naw. But yeah, three VERY good [and sad] books.)

I'm not a sad book reader, but one that was sad enough for me was Fool's Fate by Robin Hobb... I was devastated... *sniffs*

I'm guessing by 'sad' you mean tears and not laughter..?

Anyways, I only have two that I can think of:

1. The Amber Spyglass
2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

And now, of course, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I can only think of one.

Hmm...Amber Spyglass was pretty sad. And I seem to remember this one about a horse dying making me cry when I was a kid. And I wept over Star Trek: Generations for some reason. Otherwise, I cant recall any books that actually made me sad. Mostly, sad books make me giggle o_o

Oh! Yes, I remember reading Bridge to Terabithia when I was about 9 and it is probably the saddest book I've ever read...although I also recall this one book about a girl dying of leukemia, and another about a boy who died of bee sting allergic reaction while picking blackberries...they kind of stuck in my mind and terrified me as I was only about 7 at the time...**coughs** Shutting up now.

2. The Pact by Jodi Picoult

Then there are Tess of the Dubervilles (spelt wrong I'm sure). Nearly anything by Catherine Cookson, Virginia Andrews and Jodi Picoult.

Oh my, I'm pretty addicted to books that make me cry...and songs...and films...ANYWAYS.

Yah, Fool's Fate was sad. But it was such an awesome book, too. ^_^

Hmmm When I saw this I swore it said, "Sadist book" hmmm I need to improve my attention skills >_<

I'm not sure what is the saddest book I've ever read. Something that made me cry? Mysterious Skin did, but only because of sentimental relations to it.

The Historian also made me sad, because of the one guy [spoiler] [s]dying[/s].

I have a feeling there is some book that I... oh! I remember. Flowers in the Attic it isn't a good book, really, and most people know if it because of the creepiness. But really, it's so sad. How can anyone do that to their kids???? It's horrible!!!

Have you read the whole series Claudette? They get more and more tragic and some of it really is horrific!

No, but my friend got me the next two in the series for my birthday last year! I'm still in the middle of the second book, I couldn't finish it... the way she kept using randomly large words annoyed me.


And the weird thing is, when VC Andrews died, she got a ghost writer. So she is still publishing books from the dead XD
