Chapter One
"Can I help you sir?" Daniel asked as he walked up to a man in his early 30's. "Not at the moment." Said the man as he passed by Daniel, looking around the store trying to find something. "I was wondering where you keep your ink cartridges?" Said the man when he decided he needed assistance. "Right this way sir" Explained Daniel as he showed the man where they were located. "Wow I must of missed them!" Exclaimed the man as he walked over to them. Daniel just sighed quietly in response because he new that man did not even look for them. He had been watching him since he first walked into this department and all that the man did was walk up to the register that was located in there department and waited until Daniel walked up to him. "Is there anything else I can help you with?" Inquired Daniel.
"No, I'm good, thank you for your help."
With that Daniel resumed his patrol around the electronics department. It was the same job day after day, walking back and forth helping the same people with the same problems. "Excuse me sir" a lady suddenly asked from behind, "How may I assist you?" Asked Daniel as soon as he turned around. It was a lady in her late 30s or early 40s. "I was wondering if you can help me pick out a phone?" She turned and started walking towards the phones and Daniel could only follow her. "Well, what type of phone are you looking for?" The lady looked over at him "I am tying to find a phone so we can use the Internet." Daniel looked at her for a few seconds, somewhat baffled. "Wait, explain that to me again please." Said Daniel. "I was wondering what kind of phone we needed so that I could use the Internet." She repeated. "Well first of all, getting a phone has nothing to do with the Internet, and second what kind of Internet were you wanting to get? You should talk to your phone service provider for what Internet services they offer." Informed Daniel in a matter of fact tone. "Okay, thank you for your help." She said as she continued to look at the phones. Daniel walked over to the counter still wondering what just happened. Misinformation is one thing but that bordered on pure stupidity. After arriving at the counter Daniel looked at the time. It was 10pm "Yes! time to go home!" Daniel said happily to himself, he then waved to his co-workers as he walked to the back of the store to clock out!
The electronic time clock made its familiar beeping noise as Daniel swiped his badge. Smiling to himself he walked into the brake room and got a soda out of the vending machine "Are you walking home today?" Some one piped up. Daniel recognized his voice and turned towards him. It was John, one of his co-workers from the electronics department. "Oh, hey John. Yeah, I'm trying to save gas till payday. You on lunch?" John smiled "Nah, just break. I can understand with the gas prices shooting up like they are, well you take care ill see you tomorrow!" Said John. "See ya tomorrow!" Daniel replied as he walked out of the break room and began his walk home. He had just moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico and the closet person he could possibly call a friend would be John. Though it's more like the kind of friend that you only hang out with at work or school. Daniel missed his friends in Beaverton, Oregon. He had to move down here and move in with his parents until he could get back on to his feet.
Crack... Crack...
The sound of something hitting brick repeated.
Crack... Crack...
A scream then echoed into the night. Which made Daniel nearly jump out of his skin. "What the HELL was that? It sounds like it came from back behind the store." Daniel thought to himself as he stood there Nervous. "Leave me alone!" Shouted someone. The sound of wood hitting brick began again but this time Daniel saw a man come running out from behind the building, stumbling as he ran. The man was wearing a black shirt, a pair of blue jeans. He had brown hair. Everything else Daniel couldn't see completely because of the darkness. "Oh my god" Daniel gasped as the man fell. Daniel didn't know what happened but it seemed like his body reacted on it's own but before he realized it he was standing over the man helping him up. "I don't know what's going on here but we have to get you..." The man quickly spun around and grabbed Daniel, biting him on the neck, he couldn't do anything. The mans strength was too great but that is beside the point. Daniel could not move even if he wanted to, it was as if he was frozen their paralyzed. As the man began to bite down deeper and deeper on Daniels neck he became weaker and weaker, losing feeling in his legs and arms.
All of a sudden a voice pierced threw the growing cloud that was slowly enveloping his soul "Hey fucker!" Were the strangers words, which made the man sucking on his neck stop and look up. "Shit!" Was all the man said just before a sharp pain ripped through Daniel as a wooden steak came bursting through his chest. "I missed, oh well I guess" Someone said behind him. Slowly Danial looked up towards the person holding him and there he saw a glimpse of the mans teeth as he released Daniel from his grip. The Vampire turned to run but to no avail as another steak shot past Daniels head. Daniel succumbed to his weakness and started to fall. The vampire was in his path and the momentum took them both down. All Daniel could do was lie there and watch the mans blood, which was crimson in color. It was gushing out of his wound. Daniel could not help but notice that the mans blood come into contact with a pool of his own. They began to spiral together in a beautiful dance of red and crimson. Finally, the light of the world grew dark.
"Well Matt, that was fun." Sara nudged Matt in the stomach. "This piece of shit vampire gave us a good run, but it was all over for him when he grabbed that person" Sara continued to talk as they walked over to the two bodies. "Well let's see what we got here" Sara said under her breath as she rummaged through the pants of the dead humans pockets "Daniel... bah! Another nobody" she placed Daniels ID card back into his wallet and slipped it back into his back pocket. "Look at the bright side." Matt lifted up the Vampires face twisting it to face Sara "We have our prey." With that the Vampires body turned to dust.
~OK here is when the grammar becomes worse!~
Daniel woke up laying on his side and as if it was instinct, he reached for his chest. "what, were is the wound... whats going on" Daniel said as he looked down and saw that he was perfectly fine. "was it a dream" He thought to him-self but that quickly faded in his mind as he stood up and began to look around. "were am i?" He thought as his eyes started to take in what was around him. He was on some kind of dirt protrusion that stuck out of the stone wall it seemed to extended about 30 feet and was about 20 feet wide, and at the very end of this little island was a wooden dock probably not even 6 feet long. Everything else beyond the island were Daniel was standing was water as far as he could see, though the darkness of where ever he was limited how far he could see. "Hello!" Daniel yelled into the void. "Anyone there? Help I'm stranded!" he waited, their was no reply. Daniel didn't give up, he kept trying until out of no were he was swept over by a thick fog. "OK, this place is getting stranger by the minuet" Daniel couldn't see very far in front of him probably five feet or so. "First i get bit by some vampire, right after that a wooden steak explodes out though my chest i then wake up here and know this!" Daniel said to him self pissed off as he walked over to the dock and sat down looking out into the know fogy darkness.
Daniel did know how long he had been waiting their but it seamed like forever, but then he noticed something he could make out a light it was very dim at first but it eventual grew brighter. "Hey. Hey I'm over here!" Daniel smiled as he could slowly see what looked like a row boat, but a little bit thinner, and there was someone in it but Daniel could not make out what he or she looked like. The person was dressed in a black hooded cloak that covered his entire body. Also the boatsman was guiding it with some kind of long wooden stick rather then paddling.
After about 15 minutes of watching the boat slowly made its way to him and the boatsman positioned the boat parallel to the little wooden dock. "thank you, I don't know how i got there, were are we?" Daniel said excitedly, but no reply came from the boatsman. "maybe he didn't hear me" Daniel though as he got in to the boat, turning to the boatsman he saw him holding his hand out as if wanting payment. "ummm" Daniel said as he rummaged through his pockets. "I don't think i have any money" But just after he said that he noticed there were two coins in his left pocket, so he pulled them out. "ill i have is 2 pennies!" he said as he stared at them but in the corner of his eyes he noticed the boatsman pointing at Daniel's left hand and then holding his hand open. "its just 2 pennies" the boatsman just pointed again. "OK well here you go!" Daniel said as he dropped the pennies into his waiting hands. With that the boatsman turned and placed the coins in a container that hing under the lantern which was held up by a metal pole that curved over their heads. Then the boatsman pointed to one of the seats. Daniel immediately understood and sat down and with that the person pushed off and they began to float into the fog.
"Were are we going?" Daniel asked, the boatsman did not answer which Daniel expected. As they progressed deeper into the fog the water began to glow and erry green which surrounded them in a green aura. "what the hell?" Daniel said as he leaned over the side of the boat and looked down into the water to try and see what was making the water glow! But what he was unexpected, Daniel was in a state of shock because two feet below the surface of the water was full of souls. As Daniel watched them he noticed one of them began looking at him, a beautiful young lady with what looked like blond hair. "Wow" Daniel thought to himself as the spirit slowly began to float upwards towards Daniel. Which startled him and he tried to lean back and ask the boatsman what was he looking at. But he couldn't break away from her gaze. Slowly as she ascends its as if her flesh slowly begins to melt away, and as she breaches the water line all that's left is a skeleton. Just before she could grab Daniel he was pulled backwards back into the boat. "What the fuck was that" Daniel said leaning up watching the lady's skeletal hands which was visible from his angle started to melt back into the water!
Daniel sat up and turned to the boatsman. "thank you!" their was no reply the boatsman just continued to guide the boat. Hours past then finally something came into view. It was a orb of light which shined through the fog like a beacon. As they continued land slowly started to come into view, it was just like that place Daniel came from except their was a door under were the glowing orb was. "That must be the way out!" Daniel hoped and without hesitation once the boatsman maneuvered into position with the little wooden dock Daniel got off. "thank you, again" Daniel told the boatsman and with that he drifted back into the fog. Daniel turned and walked up to the door, as he opened it a bright light beamed out making Daniel squint, and hold one of his hands in front of his eyes as he steps though the doorway.
The light faded as fast as it came, it was a office on the other side of the door. It was a simple looking office a large wooden desk sat in the middle of the room with 2 chairs one in front and a larger one behind it, and off to the left was a full bookshelf. With a little potted plant in the top right corner and the best part of the office was the window behind the desk it huge the entire back wall was just a window looking down upon the city beneath it. Daniel rubbed his eyes. "what the..." was all he could think before someone spoke up which made him jump. "welcome Daniel welcome to my humble home away from home!" A man said as he turned the chair that was behind the desk around and faced him.
Chick...
Went the door as it closed behind Daniel. "who... are you?" Daniel stuttered as the man stood up. "well i have many names though a lot of people call me Satan, but that's not important what matters us the reason why your here standing in my office!" the man walked over to the other chair and pulled it out so Daniel could take a seat. "come sit we have a lot to talk about!" Daniel sat down and pulled the chair forward. "OK lets began" Satan said as he sat down. "lets see what we have here" he grabbed a folder from the in box on his desk. "whats going on?" Daniel asked and with a quick response Satan looked up. "that's simple your dead" Daniel was shocked to hear those words, though he didn't want to believe it he had always knew deep down.
Satan layed the file down on the desk and opened it. "why am i in hell? what have i done to be here?" Daniel asked. "remember helping out that man who in turned grabbed u and bit you on the neck?" Satan answered, and Daniel leaned back. "ya" was all he said Satan continued. "well its a great sin in gods eyes when you help the damned." by this time Daniel's face started to show confusion. "i didn't know..." Daniel was interrupted when Satan raised his hand which froze Daniel from being able to speck any farther. "look, ill get to the point if god really cared then why are you sitting in front of me and not him?" He lowered his hand allowing Daniel to speak Satan then picked up a paper that was inside of the folder and looked at it briefly, then slit it in front of Daniel. "whats this?" Daniel asked looking at the paper which at the top had contract in the name. "your future of course!" Satan leaned on the desk. "you have a choice either go to hell and spend a eternity suffering yadi yada and so forth. Or sign this contract and become a vampire to be able to take revenge on the world and god who abandoned you!"
Pulling open the top drawer in his desk Satan pulled out a pen and placed it next to Daniel. "you see it was not the vampire who killed you it was the greedy vampire hunters who sealed your fate! If your wondering who hired them! Well it was the Catholic church of course!" Daniel looked up to at Satan expecting to see him smiling but the expression he saw was not what he expected it was that of a spider standing over a newly caught fly that had been thrown into his web. But Daniel could not deny the fact that he was indeed in hell sitting here in front of Satan.
He could not think of anything that would explain why he would be sent to hell for, expect for what Satan had just said. This made Daniel mad and he began to want revenge on the hunters, but he also saw a opportunity. So he began to read the contract. "upon sighing this... become vampire... powers that of vilgrum's vampiric tree..." Daniel looked up. "who's vilgrum?" Satan replied with. "that's the vampire who bit you" Daniel did not sign the contract but one lined the entire part about getting powers from vilgrum's vampiric tree, and then began to write in what he wanted from this deal. Daniel wrote that he would be the start of his own vampiric tree were his powers would not be preset and he would owe no allegiance to anyone but himself! Once done he signed it and handed it to Satan.
Daniel watched Satan as he read what he wrote and he could see a smirk form. "very well" Satan said as he placed the paper down and then signed it as well. "alright know that's done, come over here!" Satan said as he stood up and walked behind the chair and began to look out the window, once Daniel got there Satan waved his hand across the glass making the image change. It was Daniel's pale blue body laying on a metal table in what looked like a morgue, and the thing that caught Daniels eye was the huge gaping hole in the middle of his chest. "you see if vilgrum was trying to turn you, well you would already be a vampire and well not in a morgue dead."
Satan looked at Daniel with a huge smile "oh and its going to be painful!" Satan said just before he shoved Daniel into the window. As Daniel touched the window it began to ripple and he disappeared through the glass.
