The Others

Sano sighed, "I'll pay for his passage Allen alright. And I'll keep a watch on him too."

Allen nodded and walked off to prepare for departure. Sano turned to Reiko, "You screw up and I'll personaly kill." He walked off with Geomana close behind leaving Reiko there alone to think.

"If you kill him, more will come after you," Geomana warned.

"We won't be in the country if that happens, and I'll kill him like a normal human would kill another human."

Geomana smiled and looped her arm around his, somewhat expecting him to drop his arm but instead he put his fist in his pocket, making it impossible for Geomana to let go.

"How much is his ticket do you think? We could certiantly charge him for it later. The humans couldn't attack you for that could they?"

Sano leaned his head against hers, "you are a strange girl Geomana, you seem so careless, and always apt to help people you don't know, but at the same time you're extreamly cautious, to the point that if it wasn't for your heart-your need to give- that you would spend your entire life locked inside your room to keep safe."

"I'm not that strange am I? No, I can't be that strange. I just feel safe around you for some reason."

Reiko tried to preserve whatever shred of pride he had left, though he knew it wasn't much. And it didn't help that he had to limp and couldn't breathe without his hand on his side. He nodded curtly to the captain and boarded the ship, glaring at Sano and Geomana as they walked awy talking. Then he turned nad tried to lose himself in the ship.

Reiko found the kitchen accidentally. No one was around, the staff wasn't working yet...

He stepped in, listening carefully to make sure that no one was nearby.

glancing over his shoulder, he opened a drawerer and slipped a knife into his sleeve. He didn't trust Others. If they attacked, he would not be defensless.

After the weapon was safely hidden, he walked back out into the hall.

Geomana spotted Reiko in the hall, "Reiko, I want to talk to you."

Reiko winced and turned around, "about what?"

"About why you're here."

"What about why I'm here?"

"I want to know why."

Geomana left her light and happy tone up on deck with Sano, she'd get it back when she rejoined him.

Reiko sighed, "its a long story."

"Its a long trip."

Reiko sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Really, you're not interested in it."

"Really, I am," Geomana replied, relentless.

Reiko thought for a moment, trying to find a way to tell her without getting killed. Finally, since she was begining to get impatient, he started, "You remember when I had you in the closet, right?" he instantly regretted it.

Geomana's face darkened. It was too late to backtrack his words, so Reiko continued, talking fast.

"Well, I was...ah...recording our conversation, and somehow the police got their hands on it...Don't look at me that way! I didn't tell them!"

"Then how did they get the recording?" she demanded.

Reiko bit his lip. "I put it in the pocket of one of the coats in the closet and, and after Sano knocked me out I forgot about it and took that same coat to work, and I left it there on accident..."

"And they just randomly checked your pockets?" Geomana gazed at him doubtfully.

"I don't know..." Reiko desparately racked his brain for something that would make his story more believable. Why did lies make so much more sense than the truth? "Officer Rendon--she was a good friend of my father's--probably just took it down to keep it safe until I came back for it, and she must've felt something hard and a little heavy in the pocket..." he sopped at her disbelieving look, and he sighed. "You don't believe a word I'm saying, do you?"

"Don't mind me," Geomana insisted. "Carry on." But her face already gave the answer.

Reiko bit his lip and passed a hand over his face. He was too far in to stop now. "So, anyway, I found the waterfall that night, came back to it the next morning, was an idiot and walked thorugh it, and that's when we met, then I went to work, and she showed me the recorder and told me that she had listened to it--"

"Are police allowed to just randomly listen to personal recordings?" Geomana interupted, trying to find holes in his story.

Reiko threw his hands in exasparation. "She was a good friend of my father's, she probably didn't think much of it!"

Geomana nodded slowly, still cynical. "And what made you run?"

"Well..." Reiko wet his lips and wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans. "I had talked about the Underground--" seeing her eyes harden, he continued on faster before she could interupt again.-- "and she asked me about it and the bar--"

"you told them about the bar!?"

"No--well, yes, but--not really..." he took a deep breath and tried to finish before he angered her anymore. "They asked me which bar, and I gave them a different bar, and they doubted me, so they wanted to bring me with them, but I told them about my injuries, and Rendon, who has been soft in her own way to me since I was a kid, let me rest as long as I came back the next morning, but I can't come back the next morning because I had lied, and they'll find out, so I wanted to get out of the country before they can ask my sister where--Oh, crap, my sister..." he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. After a moment, he shook his head. She'd be alright. it wasn't as if they'd hurt her. "She'll be fine. Anyway, they'll ask her where I went, and she'll say I never came back home, and they'll know that I made a run fro it, and I had to be gone before then."

He was breathing heavily by now, talking so fast without breathing, and he simply gazed at Geomana with nothing left to say. She stared back, still suspicious.

"Do you believ any of that?" he said, trying to calm himself down.

"Barely, what I don't understand is why its such a big deal!" she was losing control of her temper. Bad thing.

*All i've got sorry*

"The police are on my tail!" he shouted, also lettin ghis temper escape from under him. "What do you mean, that's not a big deal?"

*stabs flipping writers block with a pen many times*

"Why? Because they think you're a psycho? I'm not getting exactly why they're on your tail. I'm really confused."

Geomana's temper started to get more under control and she was able to speak clearly.
