Claire says she'll post either tonight or tomorrow but she's a little busy at the moment so one of my posts will have to do for now.

Isabelle

The Bridge game was played slowly and the parlour was filled with polite conversation but when the cards were dealt for Poker, a wave of enthusiasm seemed to breeze through the room as my brother engrossed our guests in the game.

"Play your cards everyone, play your cards," My brother smiled his charming smile as he laid a winning hand upon the table. Mr Wright, who had folded, nodded to himself, satisfied with his decision and Elizabeth who had not laid her hand upon the table with a sigh.

"A well deserved victory," Laney complimented my brother as she laid her own failed hand upon the marble surface.

"Do not judge success before the battle is won," Gregory warned.

"You think you can match those cards?" Elizabeth exclaimed. I thought her language a touch strange but then so was her accent.

"'Match them?'" Gregory chuckled softly as he rolled the expression across his tongue. "I think I can be victorious."

"Victorious? Surely you jest!" I exclaimed.

Okay, okay so we got a brick wall here so let's demolish it! Claire doesn't have too much time to write I'm afraid but we can start other love interests and we can add conflict. Like, an illness? That was pretty frequent in those days or a huge ball organised by one of the more upper class characters? Why don't one of you post the ending to the little tea party and then we'll see where we go from there and remember, I can indirectly control Gregory if he's required and the same for my character's (currently nameless) brother. You know what, have one of your characters fall in love with my character's fiance if you want! How's that for bye bye brick wall?

Hmmm. Name him what you want and I think he's a very witty man with a good sense of humour and a good heart but if you want him to be mean, go ahead and make him so. I look forward to your post =)

Thanks Kit. To avoid future confusion, I'll tell you now that I think I'd like to name him Julian, but tell me if you don't like it and I'll edit this post. Maybe Henry? Is there a Henry in here somewhere already?

Abigail

I excused myself from the game to go to the bathroom. I hadn't been giving it my full attention anyway. Sighing, I touched up the powder on my nose, wondering bleakly as to how I would ever manage to improove my lot.

My husband was getting impatient. I'd noticed that during the meal, how he'd smile at the other women far more than he would at me. He was so sure that each one would have bourne him a son by now. Sometimes, I'd catch him looking at me. I was always afraid in those moments that he believed himself to have made the wrong choice in marrying me.

Miserably, I unlocked the bathroom door, plastering the expected smile on my face in the process. It was indeed wearisome to pretend to be thrilled by such whimsy. I catered to all the pleasantries. It was crucial that no one suspected that anything was amiss. But how to compensate for a lost fortune?

The time for music came, as it always did. I listened as the other women sang, or played the piano, trying hard to give each one my full attention. I soon was called upon to sing myself. I tried in vain to politely decline, but the urgings and insistences of my companions and hosts were greater, and so I sang, grateful that the gatehring broke up soon after meaning that I did not have to linger.

As I left alongside my husband, I heard someone murmer, "she sings delightfully, does she not?" and turned ever so slightly to see Julian inclining his head in my direction while in conversation with one of his sisters. He caught me, and I smiled demurely before making for the door and bestowing my thanks and goodnights upon my hosts. It played upon my mind though for the rest of the night, and I was overcome by an absurd desire to go to Catherine and tell her at once. But my sister and I had long since passed the stage of girlish whisperings. And besides, there was no reason to whisper.

Hope that was ok. I'm frantically reading "Pride and Prejudice" for class at the moment, and consequently realizing how off my register is, but I'm hoping that will improove as I progress in the book, so please forgive me and bear with me!

:( Em...ok, serious brainstorming...Kit made some good suggestions a little while back, is there anything there which you can work with?
Let's see...em, you have the whole thing with Gregory still to play with. Plus she can be agonizing over what's going on. Maybe she makes a major faux pas, and causes a lot of trouble? Maybe someone starts getting suspicious of her? Or she can try some drastic attempt to get home? My character will be heading for decadence in a couple of posts, I think, so perhaps yours can catch her (though this will take a couple of posts for me to introduce).
Is any of that any use to you?

Yes! Idea!

Elizabeth was starting to get nervous, how was she supposed to get out of here? First things first, she decided, survive the evening. Then she'd worry about getting home.

The group decided to go for a stoll around the lake. It was late, but not quite dark yet. Elizabeth walked on the rocks up to the edge, it looked as if it suddenly dropped off. Nervously she leaned back, the rock slipped and she fell into the water.

"Oh my God!" I shrieked as Elizabeth slipped on the rocks and fell into the water. My other companions turned to see what had happened and Gregory was the first to notice the turbulent state of the water and the missing girl.

"She fell in," I informed him.

"Hold this, cousin and get back from the rocks," Gregory commanded, throwing his jacket to me.

"It's too dangerous," I protested but he was already diving into the lake and then he plunged under water and disappeared from sight. Julian hurried up river, staring fixedly at the water and I realised he was following after Gregory who suddenly re-surfaced with a load in his arms. Julian reached across to take Elizabeth from him and the rest of us hurried over to join them as Gregory pulled himself to the bank.

Elizabeth coughed when she resurfaced her eyes still shut tight she felt herself being passed from one set of arms to another and then sat on the ground. Thats when she felt safe enough to open her eyes. She saw Gregory's form in front of her, wrapping his jacket around her.

"Thank you," she said and wrapped it around her tighter, feeling the cool night's air chilling her.

"Are you always this careless?" he asked sitting down across from her, seeming oblivious to everyone else.

"I am prone to accidents," she admitted, "but this is my first time falling into a river."

"Dear Cousin, how you shiver! And I am sure miss Elizabeth does so too. Come, let us go back inside and send for the doctor!" I exclaimed worriedly. There were many nods of agreement and we helped the two poor souls to their feet.

"Abigail will go for the doctor," her husband decided as we set off.

"On her own when we have already discerned that it is dangerous?" My brother, Julian, demanded. "I will not hear of it. You must go with her."

"I can not," her husband declined. "One of us must return to the house and get that lazy maid to start our fire. If you are so inclined, you may accompany her yourself." There was a moment of awkwardness and then my brother nodded.

"Cousin Gregory, take care of my sister, though I do think she may be in better position as to care for you. I will make haste and return within the hour. It is not far to walk." Gregory nodded and they clasped hands. Then I went forward and kissed my brother dutifully upon each cheek.

"Do be careful," I urged and then our parties were divided - two heading for the doctor's house and the rest to my own abode.
