Well, in England we have a different education system

You have compulsory education until you're 16, you take GCSE's and you usually need 5 of them to enter college

At college, you attend from 16-18 and you do AS and A-Levels, usually you take 4 subjects

Then it's of to uni if you wish, to get onto a course there the typical requirement is 1 A and 2 B's

Um, the typical requirement isn't ABB. I need BBCc for my Uni, Kent, which is in the top half of Uni's in Britain.

My local Uni requires something like DD to get in.

I guess the offer really depends on the amount of applicants/university/etc.

as for me, I'm studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English Literature at AS...

What are AS and A-levels?
And why is it called "Maths" rather than "Math"?

I had my half-yearlies last week. Got some of my results today... 91.5% for Science, 36.5% for Maths (Not too bad considering the highest mark was 60%).

No idea re: AS or A-Levels, but I think it's maths because the full word is mathematicS rather than mathematic, and GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education according to my dictionary

I have exams in exactly 1 month. I start revision on Monday. On top of finishing off my work (I'm so behind it's not even funny) and finishing off two essays. Joy.

On the up side, I only have two subjects to revise for - Ethics and Religion. Uni rocks, LOL. We're weird though, compared to other countries. Two essays and an exam = a paper, no extra credit available, each counts for a different % towards your final grade. You take 8 papers max. per year and nobody will tell you your GPA. >.<

Seems a strange system to one raised on American literature, LMAO.

Got my highers soon, so revising hard. So to answer question yeh I'm revising. Well try too.

Yeah, exams suck. We have to study like crazy if we want to pass... but not me! I've been living in Japan this year so I don't gotta do any stupid tests. Ha-ha!

GCSE - General Cetificate of Secondary Education. These are what you take when you're 16.

A Levels - Advanced Levels. These are studied after GCSE's, and finish when you're 18.

AS - half an A Level (exams taken when you're 17).

A2 - the other half of an A Level.


And we call it Maths, rather than Math, cos Math sounds weird. Silly Americans.

"Maths" is an abbreviation of "Mathematics", it retains its plural form.

I'm just getting started on 23 GCSE exams for 11 subjects, Yay!

Next year I'll be doing Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and English at AS-level (and then at A2). Woo!

Yeah, I think you may find 5 full A Level subjects kindda hard to cope with.

I'm doing 4 and 1/2, and it's been a lot of hard work.

Just had my first AS level for computing yesterday =X It went okay i guess, nothing major went wrong

I'm taking four AS levels and have 8 exams.

I am in the middle of a four hour GCSE history exam! 4 hours! very boring! we take it over three days and it is really difficult!
(lukily i only have maths and science exams later this year! woohoo yr10!)

And another question, just 'cuz I can. What are the revisions you guys all seem to have to complete?

Ari: You mean revision? It's just what we call studying, as in going over what were meant to have learnt and re-learning it to make sure.
