This is the start of a story I’ve been working on. Just one thing, I’m afraid it may be too short, but I can’t find anywhere to add more detail, so help me out if you can, or just give me your opinion.
Thanks!

Wind flowed lightly through the twisting moss covered trees. The sun was hanging low in the sky, partially cut off by the tall snowy mountains. Through the calm air the light noise of boots crunching their way through dead leaves could be heard. A figure draped in a heavy green cloak swiftly hurried through the forest. Never running, but never walking.

A sudden shift in the air made the creeping figure stop. He felt pressure take control of his whole body and he knew that he had reached his destination. Pulling from beneath his cloak a small glass bottle of violet liquid, he smiled with satisfaction. His goal was accomplished, his mission, over.

Almost sighing with relief he pulled the cork from the bottle, allowing the intoxicating scent from the potion inside wash over him. It smelled of home, and filled him with a fiery desire to return, and now he finally could.

Carefully he let one drop fall from its container to the earth. Moments later, a clear thick liquid spread, as if it spouted from the ground. The man almost laughed and jumped into it, like a small child jumping into a puddle on a rainy day. The clear fluid engulfed him, and just as the sun disappeared over the mountains, the man was gone.

Suggestions anyone?
oh my...

Hello there, Fuffy!

This was a pretty good beginning. You have excellent description and a good grasp on the English language; however, I did feel this part could have used a bit more substance. Not so much lengthwise as moodwise. You must intrigue reader and near the end you managed to do it, but you need to write the man with an aura of interest around him. This is very hard to explain, but I think you know what I mean. Suck the reader in through your prose and it will improve this a lot. Describe more vividly the man and the setting to give this beginning an air of mystery.

A figure draped in a heavy green cloak swiftly hurried through the forest.

Swiftly hurried? If he is hurrying, it is implied that he is swift, no?

Nice job and keep writing. I'll be looking for any continuations. :) PM me if you have any questions.

Now THAT was an awesome prologue! I really liked it. :D

I think it's perfect as is. You don't really need to add on, I think it might ruin it if you added more detail. I could picture everything perectly and it ended at the perfect time. You don't NEED to have a long prologue, although you can have them. With this one, as I've already said, it began and ended at the perfect time. Add anymore description and it would be over kill.

In my opinion, you should keep it as is. Please let me know when you post the first chapter, I'd like to read it. :D

Hey, Fluffy. :)

As prologues go, this was really good. It isn't about the length, it's about trying to intrigue your writer from the very beginning. Which you've done here. So, good work. :) Your description was really good, and it got me into it from the beginning.

Have you done any more yet? i'm looking forward to seeing some.

-Mat :)

Hi Fuffy,

This is a really good beginning for a story. I think you had enough detail, but if you feel like you need to add more, maybe you could talk more about the character, give some hints about who he is or something (unless you want to wait until the next chapter to describe him)

One thing confused me a little: "Wind flowed lightly through the twisting moss covered trees." Is it the moss that is twisting in the wind or are the trees twisted? If you changed "moss covered" to "moss-covered" it would be clearer. It's just a little thing, though.

I'm curious about this character and why he hasn't been able to go home until now. I can't wait to read the next part :D
