I just meant they were one of the biggest bands in the '80s, and now no one even acknowledges them. I mean, they hadn't released an album for 10 years and still managed to arouse a crowd that would shame madona.
Axl really mellowed out in the end anyway, thats why Slash left. He wanted to make another rock album, but Axl wanted to go in a different direction. In my opinion, the fans stared to get brawly way back when they sacked Steven.
Yea, that is really sad. They were one of the greatest (if not the greatest) rock and roll bands of all time. But then again people nowdays listen to so much crap, its unbelievable. I think Guns N' Roses were probably the last truely great mainstream band. Now all mainstream bands just use powerchords and barre chords most the time, occasionally doing some simple single note parts (guitar refrence). I play guitar and was once in a band with some friends who liked some really crappy modern bands. Anyways, I had to learn those guitar parts. It took me less than 5 minutes to learn the whole song, minus the solo. Thats just plain sad. Now, when I go to learn a new Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, or Van Halen song it takes me much longer, maybe even more than half an hour to pretty much master the song. Thats not including solos, which take a lot of practicing to get right.
As for the Red Hot Chili Peppers being the most overrated band ever (as said by Firestarter), I will have to disagree. They are very much overrated, just not the most overated ever. I would probably leave that title for either Nirvana or Ac/Dc. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, while not being all that great, do posses talent. Flea, the bassist, is one of the best bassists ever. The guitarist for RHCP is okay, nothing to great. As for the other members, i don't know, drumming and vocals aren't my areas of expertise. But not everybody nowdays likes the RHCP. Lots of people do, but not as many as like Nirvana and Ac/Dc (or at least I don't think there are). Ac/Dc especially has a lot of young fans who know absolutely nothing about music and see a video of Angus on stage one day or listen to a song and think "wow that sounds really awsome, its almost as if they actually know how to play their instruments." They then become big fans of the band, without ever searching farther to learn about more good bands. Im not saying that Ac/Dc is bad, their just overrated. That is, they have more fans than other bands, and those other bands (in my opinion) deserve more fans (or at least respect) than they have.
