The Young Writers Society had a bout of unscheduled downtime lasting for about 15 minutes on July 21, 2026 from roughly 11:10 pm to 11:25pm EDT.
What Happened
I ran an update command on the server to update all programs. I didn't realize, though I should've, that this would lock up the database for the entire duration of the update.
Will it happen again?
No. Going forward, this will only be done during scheduled maintenance windows. I apologize to those who were in the middle of submitting something, and I hope no one lost a review or something they were working on.
Anyways, everything is back up now, the server is fully up to date, and YWS was updated from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.4, which is a huge upgrade.
