ROLEPLAY BLITZ
a month-long challenge to start and finish a collaborative short story
a month-long challenge to start and finish a collaborative short story
This Roleplay Month, we're introducing a brand-new month-long challenge, perfect for new and experienced roleplayers alike. From July 1st to July 31st, assigned parties will bring their pre-planned stories to life in the Roleplays tab, and those who reach the finish line in time will take home the ultimate prize.
To join in on the 2026 Roleplay Blitz challenge, writers must complete the Scroll of Enlistment (see below) by June 8th. Parties will be assigned on June 10th, and from then until the end of June, participants will build their characters and submit a proposed outline of the roleplay. When July begins, it's BLITZ time!
All Roleplay Blitz stories will take place in the brand-new world of Blitzia, a world where different regions lend to different genres, and the story possibilities are endless!

FAQs
I'm new to roleplaying. What even is a roleplay?
Essentially, it's a collaborative story! Each member of a party (or team) is usually responsible for writing from the perspective of one character. Each party has a leader, called a DM (Dungeon Master) who guides the plot. Roleplays are posted in the appropriate forum in the Roleplays tab, with accompanying Out-of-Character Discussion (OOC) threads for plotting the story and cheering each other on. Check out The Ultimate Guide to Roleplays for more information.
How are parties assigned?
The Roleplay Crew (Wolfi, winterwolf0100, Leya, and Ranger) will use the information collected from each Scroll of Enlistment entry to create well-balanced parties. We're hoping to place new roleplayers with experienced ones and unite writers of similar tastes! We will also assign a DM to each party.
How long should our completed roleplay be?
That's really up to you and your party! We're not judging the completion of Blitz roleplays by word count or page number. By the start of Blitz, you and your party will have finalized and submitted an outline of the story you want to complete, and seeing that outline through the end is ultimately what will net you a victory. What's most important is that the story has a clear beginning, middle, and end, and each main character has a palpable arc. If you're a numbers person and really want to know what our preferences are, we'd like to see 30k words or 15 posts for Storybooks and 6 pages for Roleplay Hollow stories. For Roleplay Realm and Duos, it can land somewhere in the middle-- but again, hitting certain numbers isn't required. Completion is the goal!
How closely does the roleplay need to follow the submitted outline?
Stories change and evolve as they are written - that's completely normal! If you need to change the endpoint of the story significantly, reach out to a member of the Roleplay Crew for confirmation that the new outilne still qualifies.
I'm the DM. What do I need to do?
Congrats, you're the leader of your party! You will be responsible for submitting your party's finalized outline, creating the official Blitz thread where the roleplay will be posted, reviewing and accepting character profiles, and facilitating write-ins as needed. Unlike traditional roleplays, this time, you're not the only one soley responsible for world building and setting up the roleplay. You will do this in collaboration with your party. You've probably been picked because you're familiar with roleplaying or leadership, and most importantly, because you said you would be willing! If this overwhelms you or you need any help, please reach out to one of the RP moderators, who will be happy to help you guide your team to the finish line!
I don't even know where to begin with world-building and plotting!
You're in luck! When we assign parties, we'll also be assigning you to a region of the Blitzia map, providing general lore about Blitzia as a whole, and presenting you with several story premises to choose from. For example, you might be assigned to the arctic region, and given the following premises:
- 𖢻 A band of outcasts discover an icebound exploration ship from a distant land, with frost zombies trapped in the brig
𖢻 Three castle servants conspire to murder the corrupt chamberlain
𖢻 A group of traveling minstrels who speak only in rhyme help a lost child find her way back home
By giving you and your party some solid starting points, we're hoping you can jump right into creating characters and working on the story's outline! At the same time, there will still be plenty of room to develop the lore of your region if that's something that excites you.
What if I already have a story and world I'd like to use for Blitz?
Ooh, we love new RP ideas! If you already have a roleplay idea in mind that you'd like to DM for, we encourage you to pursue that vision outside of Blitz, during RPMo or otherwise! This is because the collaborative aspect of Blitz is an important part of the challenge. Because we're assigning parties ourselves, we wouldn't want anyone to feel pressured to write for a DM's idea they didn't explicitly sign up for. By using one of the provided premises as a jumping-off point and developing your own plot together, everyone is ultimately writing a story they want to write. That being said, please feel free to draw from your original characters and stories when world- and outline-building. We will be providing the framework, but you will bring Blitzia to life!
How do we plan and write a whole story in such a short amount of time?
We highly encourage parties to keep the scope of the roleplay's story SMALL. Aim for a short story length plot rather than that of a novel. Think of this as a short story, novella, or chapbook that you're writing with friends. We're planning on hosting a workshop about manageable plot planning later this month - stay tuned for more info on that! Logistically-speaking, we recommend that DMs plan several write-ins throughout June to worldbuild, work on character profiles, and finalize the outline. Write-ins are usually hosted over WFP or Riseup. An OOC thread to accompany your main roleplay thread is also highly recommended. When it comes to writing the actual roleplay, your goal here is to have fun and see the story through to the end!
Can I use an existing original character in this roleplay?
Yes! OCs you've created in the past are fair game.
Can we write a fanfiction roleplay?
Fanfiction RPs can be an absolute blast when you find the right group of people. Since we're assigning parties, we encourage you to use the general Blitzia lore we provide to brainstorm original stories.
Can we start writing before July?
Plot and plan to your heart's desire, but please hold off on beginning the actual roleplay until July 1st.
What happens if someone needs to drop out before Blitz ends?
Life happens! Please reach out to a member of the Roleplay Crew so we can help the party navigate the rest of the challenge.
Can I join more than one party?
No. We will only be assigning each participant to one party at a time.
So are we competing against each other or what?
Nope! In this event, we're encouraging teams uplifting one another and rooting each other on! If parties want to have lore overlap or even make guest appearances in one another's roleplays, they're welcome to do so.
