The broken spirit inside

i hold these moments, masks
shattered like green-glass
bottles on concrete pavement
and understanding mutual
smiling through tears in barely
breaking daylight hours
glistening on my face

from your demons, and
when i doubted life itself
your words comforted my
worst fears and gave
me another reason
to find something beautiful
in the process, that there’s my
heart
heart of gold, you
said, i still have empathy
and that sometimes
is all I needed to hear.

flows knurled linework, polished
swirls spreading spilled ink pressed
deep onto notebook paper

i guess it isn’t a surprise
we found our own little space
and our own flavour of
friendship, damn the rumors
