I made a pretty graph for the occasion.
Here's my favorite line:
Harriet gritted her teeth. “Had anybody… died when you left?”
Oop.
Harriet gritted her teeth. “Had anybody… died when you left?”
Adelphina bristled. “You would dare accuse me of lying?”
Damien laughed harshly. “In fact, I have accused you several times of lying! Remember? We were married just a couple hours ago!”
Adelphina blushed and shrank away.
"If you insist," Damien said, again looking at the sky.
Adelphina's gaze followed his. "Why do you keep looking up into the sky anyway?" she asked. "What is it you see? Is it shadow?"
"No shadow," Damien said. "Just a suspicion of rain."
"It'll take us two days if we keep at this rate," Damien said.
Adelphina scowled. "But we have a mule! It only took me three days to get to your town. Why should it take us two days?"
"But you were probably running the whole time and not stopping for anything," Damien pointed out. "But we can stop for whatever reason we like."
Adelphina snorted. “Such as all the graveyards we’ve stopped at so far?”
“We’ve only visited three of them so far,” Damien said.
“It’s not even noon!” Adelphina snapped.
Damien gave an apologetic smile. “Was it that obvious?”
“Della?” he asked, moving to get off, then winced when he moved too far.
“You rest,” Adelphina said sternly. “You’re drunk.”
“I’m not drunk,” Damien muttered, his words slurring together. “I just can’t stand up by myself. But if you helped me up…”
“It’s still a bit odd to see everyone out here.”
“Oh, stop being so downbeat on it. At least the line is moving quickly.” Then he nodded to Adelphina. “By the way, your bodice is slipping open again.”
Adelphina swore. “Is it?”
Damien suddenly laughed. “Careful, princess! I don’t think those are very regal words coming from your lips.”
