The Channel is extremely responsive and reacts to a Wielder's intent, emotional state, and discipline. Your character's "discipline" is their specialty and the type of magic they wield. Some describe it as a river that flows in multiple directions at once, while others say it's a network of threads you pluck like an instrument. Wielders develop a "Core", or the focal point that lets them draw from the Channel without shattering under the strain. Overloading or damaging your Core leads to Channelburn, which includes loss of magic, physical collapse, or, in severe cases, a permanent psychic fracture (in other words, what happens to most Forbidden Magic Wielders when they fall victim to the extent of their powers). Disciplines to Pick from (But feel free to suggest your own, too!) ✦ Elementalism : A rare discipline, these Wielders can shape fire, water, earth, or air directly from the Channel. ✦ Mirrorcasting : These Wielders study to turn reflective surfaces, like mirrors, into portals or shields. ✦ Illumancy : Manipulating light and shadow for illusions and concealment. These Wielders can also shapeshift on rare occasions. ✦ Runecrafting : These Wielders create magical effects via runes that are usually inscribed into books and buildings. ✦ Storm Wielding : These Wielders can usually control and create storms and lightning. They are extremely unpredictable. ✦ Emotional Conducting : These are mentally powerful Wielders who can amplify emotions to affect someone's mental state. They also have the rare ability to tell when someone (or a group of people) is lying or being untruthful. ✦ Enchanting : These Wielders specialize in binding magic permanently into an object, weapon, piece of clothing, or even living being. An Enchanter's work lasts until the original spellcaster breaks the Channel connection. ✦ Mnemonic Binding : Though uncommon, these (usually scholars) Wielders steal memories and place them into objects, people, or places, similar to Echanters. ✦ Healing : These Wielders are usually key in combat. They channel magic to repair physical major or minor injuries at the cost of their own Core energy. ✦ Seer : A very uncommon discipline, these Wielders have the ability of foresight, though it's not always correct. Blysthe Academy only as one student that possesses foresight. ✦ Shadowmancy : These rare Wielders can shape shadows into constructs or extensions of themselves. They can also travel short distances through shadows, especially at night or in a dark room. This gift is usually passed down through aristocratic bloodlines. Forbidden and Dangerous Disciplines ✦ Cursebreaking (Forbidden) : These Wielders can absorb, read, and awaken forbidden enchantments by reading their magical patterns. If one does this more than once in a 48hr period, the Wielder could be at risk of death or Channel burnout. ✦ Hollowing (Forbidden) : The rarest Disicipline, these Wielders can strip another of their core, leaving them defenseless for moderate periods of time. ✦ Deathcalling (Dangerous, Shunned) : A branch of Necromancy, these Wielders can mind-control while destroying someone's core in small amounts. This discipline has a very high risk of burnout and paranoia, because they are drawing magic from the dead (These Wielders are not direct Necromantics, they have no ability to bring back the dead). ✦ Necromancy (Forbidden) : These Wielders can bring back and control the dead. Considered a direct violation of the Pact of Rest (law that protects the peace between the living and the dead). ✦ Spirit Discipline (Dangerous) : These Wielders work with emotions, memories, and spirit energy. They can usually heal or destabilize any mental state. These Wielders can fall into psychosis easily, and if done too much, usually end up falling victim to their spirit encounters. ✦ Catacraft (Dangerous) : These Wielders can summon disasters like earthquakes,volcanic eruptions, and tsunami waves. Catacraft users usually make it into high society and politics, and the gift is usually passed down through bloodlines. ✦ Blood Wielding (Riots in Capital to ban, Dangerous and Shunned) : These Wielders are more common than the other forbidden and dangerous Disciplines. They can stop blood flow in any living being at the cost of their own life force and can use shed blood to enhance their own spells. It's a mixture of sun-bleached highlands, green marshes, and sandstone ridges and caves. Pillars are raised in the Badlands -- locals call them the "Spikes of Amon" -- a landmark for travelers and scholars alike. History There are revolving theories about how Qutassaw became the most promising and powerful district within Junai. A scholar from Troye will tell you it began with the First Concord, the treaty signed between the coastal cities and the inland tribes after the War of Tides, roughly five hundred years ago. An elder from Hurra would tell you the "real" Qutassaw existed long before that, when the land was only occupied by fishing villages, traveling clans, and desert caravans who shared trade routes but no official name. Over it all, everyone can agree on one thing: the land itself, and its politics, were shaped by arcane magic. A great example of this would be the Spines of Amon. Old texts claim they were raised in a single night by the last living Wielder of the Stone Tongue in a desperate bid to shield the northern provinces from evil forces. It was originally a fort, set on the Southern Coast to guard against raiders coming in from the west. Over time, as Qutassaw changed, the fort became a training ground for elite Wielders who defended Junai's borders. It wasn't until the Age of Death (around 270 years ago, when magic surged erratically and nearly split the capital into chaos) that Blysthe formally became an academy for young arcanists. It's considered prestigious, but also deadly. Blysthe has a reputation for producing both Junai's greatest protectors and its most dangerous outcasts. That's a great question!

Those ideas are amazing and mine are slightly similar as in there are some elemental breeds! I was going to draft up some sort of dragon guide-- I was thinking it'd be a more extensive list! Since there are so many specialties (not just elemental!), there is an abundance of dragon breeds! I will release the guide tonight or tomorrow (probs tonight as I should've probs done this earlier XD)

The guide will include how Dragons work, a brief history on them, the different breeds etc! That way we can reference it when we get to the Dragon Trial. (WHICH IM SO EXCITED FOR!)

We can also decide which dragons pick our characters! and then the hardest part... names XD

A Guide to Dragons in Junai

You may say, "Dragons are beasts!", but Dragons are of the Channel itself -- flesh and scales forged from magic older than your bloodline and Junai. When one looks at you, it is the Channel itself peering through their eyes. Remember that." -- General Blu Everesteen

Crimson Dragon

Deep red scales with black streaks, eyes like molten gold, and wings tipped with ember-like flames. Master of fire and destructive energy, can channel explosive firestorms and heat based illusions.
History: Ancient war dragons, once used on the battlefield to burn entire fortresses.

Violet Dragon

Sleek, deep purple scales that shimmer and a long, whip-like tail with a luminescent tip. Shadow and mind-manipulating abilities, can cloak allies and manipulate light and darkness.
History: Guardians of libraries and knowledge, along with Amethyst Dragons.

Ivory Dragon

Pearly white scales with silver flecks, icy blue eyes, breath leaves a frost mist. Ice manipulation, defensive wards, and land control.
History: Sacred guardians of mountain monasteries.

Seafoam Dragon

Turquoise/green scales with silver streaks, webbed wings, and an extremely long tail shaped like a heart at the tip. Water and wind manipulation, can summon currents, tidal waves, or storms.
History: Coastal + Sea protectors. Works closely with the military.

Sunset Dragon

Orange/red scales fading into gold at the wings and amber eyes. Blue Fire and light magic, dazzles and blinds enemies, often creates aurora-like illusions.
History: Heralds for kingdoms, signaling victory or peace.

Emerald Dragon

Deep green scales with golden flecks, eyes like polished jade. Nature and healing magic, can accelerate plant growth, purify water, and mend wounds.
History: Guardians of enchanted forests and wildlife.

Indigo Dragon

Dark blue/violet scales with streaks of starlight and glowing indigo eyes. Psychic and illusionary magic, can read minds, manipulate emotions, and create strong, memory-based illusions.
History: Rare and secretive, not much known about them.

Onyx Dragon

Jet black scales with silver undertones, piercing gray eyes and a shadowy aura. Shadow manipulation, stealth, and short range teleportation.
History: Aristocratic dragons, historically bonded with Shadow-based disciplines, but have recently been branching out.

Azure Dragon

Bright blue scales with glints of silver, wide wingspan with lightning like streaks. Lightning and storm control, can create thunderclaps and electrically charged land.
History: Coastal battle dragons, usually mated with Seafoam Dragons.

Amethyst Dragon

Purple crystal like scales, glowing violet eyes, long black horns. Looks similar to Violet Dragons, but smaller-- usually told apart by the size and horns. Arcane amplification, enhances Wielders' spells, making them twice as destructive. ( Taken: Adaline)
History: Scholar dragons, often guarding arcane libraries and places of knowledge. Known to mate and group with Violet Dragons.

Moonstone Dragon

Pale, silvery-blue scales with a pearlescent shimmer, eyes glow faintly at night. Illumancy and mirrorcasting magic, can create mirages and reflective shields.
History: These dragons are nocturnal but are extremely powerful, yet slightly manipulative. They seem to rebel constantly. The most feared out of them all, has trouble bonding with humans.

Slate Dragon

Gray/blue scales, eyes like storm clouds, muscular and large. Earth and stone manipulation, can create barriers, sinkholes, and seismic shocks.
History: Mountain dragons used in the military by battlefield tacticians.

Pearl Dragon

Smooth, opalescent scales with hints of pink and lavender, gentle golden eyes. Healing, purification, and blood magic. These dragons can manipulate blood temperature and flow and can heal by giving up some of their own lifespan.
History: Coastal or sacred temple guardians, used by monks and ancient practitioners of magic.

Neon Dragon

Bright, iridescent scales that shift in color depending on angle with glowing multicolored eyes. Deathcalling, can drain another's core for medium periods of time using death magic.
History: Young, unpredictable dragons are found scattered across Junai; they are the newest breed-- probably a mix of a few others.

When a dragon chooses a Wielder, it creates a Channel Link. This bond is sealed in the Dragon Trial when both dragon and Wielder share energy in unison. The deeper the trust and compatibility, the stronger the fusion effects. If the bond is strained, the fusion may backfire, causing Channelburn.

The First Step is Amplification. The dragon boosts the Wielder's existing discipline (Mirrorcaster with an Indigo Dragon, Shadowielder with an Onyx Dragon, etc.). Then comes the synergy, when their powers combine into something new (Amethyst Dragon + Elementalism = multi element spell).

After fusion, if one half takes damage, the other feels it. This includes death. A dragon dies with their Wielder. Therefore, the dragon can withdraw from fusion if the Wielder loses trust in them.

Fusion duration depends on the trust formed between Wielder and Dragon. The stronger the bond, the longer the fusion lasts.

*Note on Communication between Dragons and Wielders
Dragons can Communicate Subconsiously with:

Their Bonded Wielder (our characters)
Other Dragons (especially their mates)
