In honor of YWS's 20th anniversary, your challenge is to write a poem or a short story in just 20 words! But to mix things up a bit, there's a catch - if you are writing a poem, it has to be in the format of having ten lines, and two words per line. If you are writing a story, you will have only four sentences, each having five words. In other words, the challenge here is to express as much as you can in little space. If you need some more clarification, enspoilered here are examples: (You guys are going to write better short stories and poems than me, this is just to show you the format)

Spoiler
Short Story Format Example:
Each whisper was hushed, shriveled. Glances were quick and contemplating. Eyes were drawn like magnets. She dragged her iron feet. Desiring to disappear into darkness.

Poem Format Example:
Trickling, sinking,
silence was
all but
time's slave.
Eyes twitch,
hands tremble,
thoughts given
such space
until there
is none.

You can choose to either write a poem or short story. In case you have a lack of ideas, the loose prompt is reunion, although you don't have to use this if you don't want to. Submissions are due by 11/22/2024 23:59 EST. All participants will get a badge, and the winner will additionally get a limited edition badge of their own, as well as 400 points.

To submit your poem or story, just post it here, and feel free to ask any questions here too. Have fun, good luck, and happy writing!
Good is not a thing you are. It's a thing you do.

two quarters time
time speeds
by like
a song;
in two
quarters time
feels like
just yesterday
i came;
but now,
we've reconvened.
[soon, i will submit myself to the stars]

Class Reunion

Familiar faces
left behind,
older, fatter.
homecoming king
approaches you,
"remember me?"
shocked laughter,
dancing, wine,
"Please stay"
"I might."
"You do ill if you praise, but worse if you censure, what you do not understand." Leonardo Da Vinci

Old friends,
paths cross.
Memories fade,
hearts return.
Laughter shared,
time stops.
Hands meet,
eyes shine.
We reconnect,
never apart.

Words, what
a little
strange things.
Sometimes you
only need
twenty of
them to
tell your
own, little
short story.
It's Kay, babe!

water trickles
across rocks
moving with
a purpose
until it
reaches its
end; the
endless ocean
is formed
drip - drop
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Hidden Truths

Caring person
Listening ears
Loving hugs
Shared cheers.
However past
Each smile,
Disguise lies
Hiding tears,
Covering scars,
Hiding fears.

When life throws you lemons, give them a blueberry. No one will ever expect it.
