NovMo 2024: The Lost System Rewrite

The Lost System

Right, I've been working on this 2nd draft/almost-complete-rewrite since... june? I think? Anyway, I tend to be a slow writer, and it doesn't help that I've been doing it by hand, but I think it's not an unreasonable goal to try and finish this draft by Christmas so that's the plan.


The goal then, for November, is to get from where I'm currently at (just arrived on Wil-Drebyd) to the return to Cartha where the climactic final showdown sort of battle event thing takes place. I guess that won't make sense to anyone except me but oh well.

People that hand-write novels truly blow me away. And it's honestly great that you take your time with your writing, especially with re-writes! I wish you lots of good progress this month!

November 1st, Day 1
Didn't work on TLS

Day 2
Roughly outlined what happens on Wil-Drebyd

Day 3
Wrote up the begining of chapter 22. Taersa leads the crew through the Berg, Sam makes a couple sauve sarcastic comments, and they are brought to the door of Tallus' cavern place.

Day 4
Wrote the scene where they meet Tallus.

Day 5
While waiting until Tallus' feast, the crew talk. It's been a while since there's been a lot of dialogue, that was fun well... also kind of tiring trying to get into all the character's heads..

Day 6
They feast!

Day 7
I didn't actually do any complete scenes yesterday, but noted down a number of bits of conversation and moments so today I just have to make them all connect..

Day 8
Did a little bit of Aster and Tallus initial confrontation but not very far... It's the weekend now so I'll hopefully get caught up a tad.

Aaaaand at last I've got that scene finished and goodness was it fun.. (by that I mean very very melancholy and poetic with plenty of melodramatic monologues.)

Also, thanks everyone for the comments. You all seem to think the handwriting thing's pretty cool so I thought I'd share what today's writing looks like:

Day 10

Night deepens and a ship arrives at the Berg... Pavgar bursts into Tallus' court and demands Aster as prisoner. Tallus of course throws him out. (But more troubling: This means there is a spy amongst them...)

Day 11 and 12

Wrapped up that chapter (possibly too quickly.. but that's what drafts are all about) and started planning chapter 23 and what happens on Bartalion.
Which frankly I'm thinking needs a better name.

Day 13

They arrive on Bartalion..newly renamed Niconum.

Days 14-15

Setting out with Wilson for Buhr Umyord, only to find it attacked, they turn back and make for Iscylla's Pass to get to some safer islands.
Didn't get much done on the 15th, possibly I'll work a bit on Iscylla's backstory to figure out what will happen in the pass.
