Thalassa huffed out a laugh. "Not even close. This entire town is the compound, Sirejj. Mottis aren't idiots." She paused. "Well. Most of us, anyway."

"Most of you." He raised an eyebrow. "There are always those few." He was curious to learn more of her family, but he didn't plan on prying. Trust was built over a very long time, especially in this line of work. Poking around where he didn't belong would be more trouble than it was worth.

"Unfortunately." She kept walking. "I don't have any further questions at this point; I'm confident in your abilities and fairly confident in your discretion. Oh--I suppose we should discuss your salary."

He walked alongside her. "You're a fair employer from what I hear, I foresee very little negotiation." He grinned and tried to brush some dust off his coat, only to discover it was in fact a permanent stain. "Enough to provide me with something a little less bedraggled I hope. We can't have people thinking the Lady Motti is hiring vagabonds now can we?"

"Oh, my dear, you're not walking out of this building without a proper wardrobe." She plucked at his sleeve. "This is...unacceptable. I'll have it all taken care of, at no expense to you."

He laughed. "And for that, I will be eternally grateful."

"Do you have any questions for me? We have time to waste; Zee can handle Thamer for awhile."

"Only where my lodging will be. Otherwise, none for now." He sighed, glancing up at the clear sky and then back to Thalassa. "You will let me know if you need any secrets pulled from the unfortunate senator you have strapped to that chair? Though I sense you have a different purpose in mind for him."

"The Senator has nothing he can tell me," Thalassa said with a shrug. "He's receiving a reprimand. But thank you for the offer! I'll have one of the droids find you a room here. As a bodyguard I'd like you to be close, otherwise I'd offer you a house in town. Zee will give you the rundown on your duties."

"Very good." They made a turn, walking back towards the house. "I thank you for your hospitality again, My Lady. It will not be forgotten." Beneath the lighthearted formality was a veiled assurance. Sirejj, for all of his ways, was not one to break his word. A contract was one thing, but earned respect was another. So long as Thalassa held that respect, she held his loyalty.
Time would tell how he would get on in this syndicate. He'd never made it in the guilds due to his disdain for cheating, shallow minded criminals. Thalassa's group seemed very different, however. She ran a tight ship of skilled people, and working so close to her meant less exposure to the common criminal. This would prove a promising position.

Thalassa dipped her head in acknowledgement, catching the layers to the response. "I'm indebted to you for your help on Atoa, Sirejj. You don't know how frustrating it was to be left wondering about those loose ends. Consider this payment for services rendered, please."

"Consider any debt repaid." He nodded to her, his figure signifying a rare respect which he reserved for very few. "I believe our partnership will be a favorable one for us both."

"Agreed." Thalassa stopped at the doors and held out her hand for him to shake. "May it last long enough to benefit us both and short enough that we don't tire of each other."

Sirejj grasped her hand and shook it firmly. "May it be so."

Wanna skip to another POV or should we play out Sirejj chatting with Zee while they head to his room? She'll finish up the beating a little later than now.
