I'd love to know about the world we're operating in; is it like us Messengers are modern-day 21st-century regular life people who also happen to work for the Gods? And is Messenger just a job that anyone can get, or do we get referred or recruited, etc? Does everybody and their mom know about this job or is it a secret thing? Sorry, so many questions, I know

Hey! I’m a little confused about all of these Messenger questions since you asked to be a reaper. Are you just curious about how messengers work or did you mean to ask to be a messenger? But assuming you meant to ask those questions for reapers, all Celestial Servants are people who work for the gods full time, but they are normal people with a few extra perks depending on your job. For you, that means your character can freely enter and exit the afterlife when most people can’t.
Anyone can theoretically become a Celestial Servant as long as they are 18 or older. However, the hiring process is very competitive so only the best candidates get chosen. And only the best reaper would be asked to complete this mission. The Celestial Servants and the gods themselves are widely known and frequently interact with humanity.
