je pense à ton nom
comme je pense au week-end,
ou aux sandwichs—
un mot que j'ai emprunté
sans l'intention de le retourner.

Translation:
I think of your name
like I think of the weekend,
or of sandwiches—
a word that I borrowed
without the intention of returning it.

Very strong start Plume! I agree with mint that I'm loving the double meaning of "borrowing" words in this context. Looking forward to your poetry this month!

à la fin, j'aimerais que j'eusse dit
«je suis désolée
je t'aime
et pour le reste de ma vie,
c'est toi.»

• context •

one of my least favorite things when trying to say something in french is when i know a word but i'm not sure it means the same thing in one sentence as it does in another and if that sameness keeps across languages so i have to go to the dictionary and look up how to say the word in the context i want and then sometimes the context isn't even right or specific and i just want to travel to québec or france or sénégal and look someone deeply in the eyes and say how do you say home but in the way where it's not four walls and a floor but the people and smells who live there. how do you say home but in the way where it's about the safety, the belonging, the feeling that everything bends around you like a mold. how do you say home but in the way where it's a person who you know so well they might as well be brick and mortar and you the mason. how do you say that because 'chez moi' just doesn't feel right. 'ma maison' just doesn't cut it.
