I mean no offense, but why did the courts believe him over the man who managed the orphanage? It would be very easy to look that up. Did the man bribe the judge or the jury?

If you don't mind me intruding in on this conversation-I'm not a legal professional or anything but I have experienced trials before and I can tell you with certainty that not all judges see through deception. Additionally there's a lot of background pressures that go on. It probably was easy for the officer to pull something like 'oh hey, I've received domestic violence calls from his house before so don't trust his word yada yada' or the police force could've been pressuring the judge for a not guilty verdict, or police officers who sympathized with him could've been on the jury.
Hi, Zyria! I'm majoring in law. As such, I have taken many criminal justice classes and spoken to a few judges. While some judges are inept at their jobs, I agree; I'm simply asking herb why this trial went so poorly. To prove first-degree murder, the prosecution has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant acted with malice and planned the murder. So, I'm asking what caused this trial to go through with such little proof. I am not trying to be rude, haha. It's just my lawyer brain being a little too particular XDD Bribery is always a good bet, though ^^ Also, due to the nature of the American justice system, Lyle also could have been hounded into accepting a plea deal: essentially pleading guilty in order to be have a lighter sentence.
