Welcome Humans!

(and computer stealing cats)

I know we've had forums to post writing prompts before, but it doesn't look like anyone has used those in years. So I decided to make a new one. If no one uses it, that's fine, but if people do use it, great!

This is where you go if you have writer's block and would like a prompt, if you have a story idea but don't think you can go anywhere with it, or if you just have some fun prompts to post or want to write a new story but don't know where to start.

A few rules:
    1. Prompts can consist of summaries of ideas, snippets of poetry to get someone inspired, dialogue, paragraphs, activities to do (eg. take a book, flip to a random page, and write a story based on the fifth word on that page,) lists to continue, and anything else you can think of! (Extra points for creativity! : D )
    3. Please refrain from posting topics that may contain content that is inappropriate for younger writers. If you really need to put swears in your prompt, put them in asterisks.
    4. You can only post a prompt twice per day, and you are limited to only reply with a post with five prompts in it at once. (example with prompts will be posted below)
    5. No picture/image/video prompts, please. Only words.
    6. If you write something for one of the prompts posted here and then decide to publish it on this site, please include a line at the top of your work before publishing that says something like: Inspired by [insert username here] and include the username of whoever came up with that prompt.
6 1/2. You can also just write a story for one of these prompts in a blog post or something, and then leave a link to it (with a tag of the username of whoever suggested the prompt) in this thread.

Now get creating!

(^v^)

First example prompts:
  1. Take two famous authors, (eg. Mary Shelley & J.R.R. Tolkien,) and have them meet at a book signing. Describe what each author thinks of the other’s work.
  2. The yellow tennis ball
sits in the middle of the court,
    neon in the sun.
  3. "Why don’t you ever listen to me?”
“I try, but you don’t listen to me!”
“But you really should have listened to me about this one. Cats don’t belong in butter!”
  4. In 750 words, write a short story about a crystal and mineral laboratory and how its latest experiment went terribly wrong.
  5. To do:
    • Take out the trash.
    • Fill the car with gas.
    • Drop off muffins at Mandy’s.
    • Get the latest assignment from Death.
    • Complete that assignment.
    • Return home and wash the windows.

1. Write a poem about rain, a water bottle, an excitable puppy, a potted plant, and a katydid (bush crickets).

2. Describe whatever is directly in front of you, (be it a room, person, animal, view, etc,) solely in colors and other adjectives. Make up colors if you have to!

3. If an apple came to life like a human, what would its favorite season be? Favorite color? Favorite hobby?

4. If walls could talk, what would they say?

5. Ask someone for an animal. Ask another person for an adjective. Ask yet another person for an activity. Combine those things to write a story!

2. Write a dystopian story where everyone is required to watch a 24 hour brainwashing/propaganda movie every other Tuesday and they are led to believe that they can't look away from the screen or they'll be punished, but a group of teens sneak out and discover what the government is actually doing in those 24 hour periods of time.

3. The cat stretched out her golden paws to catch the sunlight.

4. "I. Love. Tyler! Why can't you understand that?"

5. Little did they know that eating that avocado while simultaneously playing a racing video game would end the world.
