Ky looked between them helplessly, then gave a deep, despondent sigh, deflating. She nodded glumly. “Alright.”

Humtur took Rönn from the tree and dropped him. Rönn landed with a grunt and went to stand beside Ky, clutching his side.

Ky miserably clambered onto the saddle, head hung, and murmured, “sorry for the trouble.” Then she clicked to her horse and urged him back towards Serpent Keep.

Rönn trudged after her, casting a venomous glance back at Humtur. "Godspeed," Humtur said to Ky, turning and lumbering away.

Ky desperately tried to pull herself together, but it wasn’t working. She had a crushing sense of loss. Lost freedom; lost opportunity to see her mother; lost opportunity to prove herself independent. She was going to be escorted back to the keep like a criminal and then babysat to the extreme.
She was bitter.
Bitter that Rönn had found her.
Had forced her to pick between going on her way and him getting hurt by Humtur.
