"You meet ghost then? You friends?"

Ky glanced around to see if any were out where they could hear her -- Narfi was already developing a bad habit of showing up at bad times. "Um... I mean... 'friend' is a strong word..."

"Well... like... I mean... I don't know." She shrugged. "I'm... wary... of them all. I don't feel like they tell me the truth." But, then, most people didn't.

"Ashes good at lying," he mused. "Everybody knows this."

"Yeah." Ky nodded. "It's hard to be friends with people who lie to you... plus most of them don't like me." She shrugged. "Which is fine; I don't need them to like me. I'm going home."

"Why they not like you?" he scoffed. "You good."

"I'm not good," she said quietly, shaking her head. "And even if I was, they don't like my father, for no reason. They're jerks... and my Papa used to say that the nicest thing anyone could do for him is to be nice to me so I guess the opposite is true, too. So I guess they think that, too. Not be nice to me because I'm now one of Tomhas's kind-of kids."

(May have gotten indirectly and subtly scolded for calling my own great-great-great grandfather an illegitimate child a couple weeks ago by the way)

"That stupid," he scoffed. "Not fair to you or Loquitur."

(Oh oooooof)
(if it's any consolation I called my great-grandfather a rapist a few months ago and it didn't go over well, unsurprisingly lol I never met him and it may have been an unfair judgment but I learned that my he and his wife were "socialites" whatever tf that means and then the great depression hit so they had to move back to the middle of bumfuck WV and my great-grandmother went clinically insane and her asshole husband kept impregnating her after that fact. Poor woman had 11 kids, like 7 of which came after she lost her mind. And like... idk, it feels gross. I wasn't alive. Maybe the rape title isn't fair. But it feels hella sketch to impregnate a crazy lady multiple times. Was she capable of consenting??? Dunno but it feels gross, y'know?)

"I don't think they care about being fair to either of us," Ky mused. "They're just rude and closed-minded for the most part."

(Oh god
That's terrible. Definitely doesn't seem right...)

"They old and dead," he pointed out. "Who care what they think?"

(Yeahhh... it also finally struck me how wildly problematic my own parents' relationship was. There is a 9-year age gap between them. But like, that seemed fine growing up. Pushing it, sure. But they're 60 and 69, at this point what does it matter? Butttt it finally sank in recently that my dad was 27 when they met with three kids and my mom was 18. And I mean no offense by this whatsoever, but as a 27-year-old any age that ends in "teen" feels like a child when it comes to picking a romantic partner. I won't go below like... 25. Maaaybe 24 for an afab person, I usually won't date down more than a single year for an amab person and prefer dating up for them but absolutely not an eighteen year old. Like daddy-io what you doing that wasn't okay???)

"I don't, really," she said with a shrug. "But I still have to deal with them. See and hear them and everything."

(I completely, completely agree. I'm nineteen and even a twenty-one year old dating an eighteen or nineteen year old seems kinda icky to me. Maybe I'm just a prude though.)

"I fight them for you if they rude," he promised her. "Point to them and I bite them."

(nah I think you are 100% right on that. I think the older you get the less age matters but your demographic is a very small window for sure haha like 18 and 21 is not at all the same thing as 27 and 30 imo. Wildly different life stages. I personally have found I've gone through significant bouts of maturity like every other year since I was like 19 lol not sure I've changed that much since 25 but I'm radically different than I was at 24. You gotta date within your stage of life or it feels hella gross and groom-y)

Ky grinned, then hesitated. "Wait, can you see ghosts too?"

(Yes, exactly!)

"No." He shook his head. "But maybe I touch them?"

So, please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install a lovely bookcase on the wall.
