Ky frowned, too. “Well if I tell you what I’m gonna ask about and you’re gonna tell him then you’d just tell him that I asked if you’d tell him.”

"Does this have to do with you or anybody being harmed?"

“What?” She blinked at Sera. “No. I just wanna get him… something… but it won’t be a surprise if you tell him.”

"Okay, then I won't tell him."

Ky looked at her suspiciously for a moment, then decided to risk it. “… do you think he wants a heart box?”

Her eyebrows shot up, then lowered thoughtfully. She was silent for a moment.
"I expect that would be a difficult gift for him to receive," she said finally. "I'm not sure he'd know how to feel. There'd be a lot of gratitude, he'd be very moved, I'm positive of that. But it would be....sore, too. Very sore. He'd have two big emotions going on at once."

“…so you don’t think I should get him one?” She concluded.

"I think you need to be aware of how he may react when presented with one," she said. "It doesn't mean he shouldn't have one. But it's going to be complicated for him."

“Well… I mean… if it’s going to hurt his feelings maybe I should just leave well enough alone? He just looked so sad not to have one.”

Sera sighed. "It wouldn't hurt his feelings, Ky. That's not the same as what I said."

Ky was silent for a long moment. This was even more confusing than before. “…oh.”

"I think it's a lovely gift idea," she assured her. "But if you do this then you need to be prepared for him to react with...it'll be emotional at first, I think. But in the end I think it will strengthen your bond with him. Overall it will be a good thing--yes." She nodded, seeming more sure of herself. "This would be good for you both."

“…You’re sure?” Ky asked, a spark of hope rekindling.

She nodded. "I'm sure. It'll be tough, but it'll turn out."

“Okay.” Ky smiled a little. “Well what kind should I get him? And what should I put inside? He said he likes the little smooth stones in pouches — you heard him say that, right? That are round and he can turn them around. I think I should get him a pouch of those right?”
