(No rush! Just got to the hotel so I’m settling in still)

“Okay… and I guess, what, I go this way and you go that way and we walk until we meet?”

He nodded. "Let's circle back when we find him."

She furrowed her brow. "But then wouldn't we be sure to miss each other and have to make the full loop ourselves?"

"We'll see each other, unless we're around back. Whichever one of us gets back first can wait here with Captain Bay."

"Ohhh, okay." Ky nodded. She hesitated, not at all enjoying the thought of having to both Captain Bay enough to drag him all the way off the wall to wait for Tomhas. The thought of knowing they were waiting for her almost seemed worse, though. But, well... fine. She didn't have a better idea.

"Okay. Good luck!" He strode off in the direction he'd indicated.

Ky still wasn't entirely sure what the point in him helping her was if they were going to split up, but she nodded and reluctantly started in her direction. So much for her moral support. Safety. What if she ran into Captain Bay right now? Then she'd be on her own. Just like if Tomhas had just stayed at breakfast.

But, well, hopefully he'd be the one to find the captain, not her.

There was a man standing off to the side of the gates watching her from a distance. He was quite tall, with a slightly scarred face and long brown hair hanging loose but well-kept about his shoulders. His shoulders were broad but the rest of his frame was wiry, and he wore heavy winter clothes as if preparing for a hunt. His face was sharp and angular with a aquiline nose and intense blue eyes under thick brows. A thick beard covered his chin, and an expensive-looking sword hung by his side. He said nothing as he watched her.

(yaaaas)

Ky was hyper-aware about noticing people noticing her these days, and she spotted him quickly. She didn't, however, know what to do. Was he a soldier? He looked... off, to be a soldier. But who else would it be? It's not like he'd be hanging around in plain sight if he didn't belong here.

And it's also not like any of the soldiers would be stupid enough to do anything to her here. She wanted to believe none of them would wish her harm anytime or any place. But her anxiety wouldn't allow for that degree of idealism. Even then, she was certain a soldier wouldn't attack her in plain view of the courtyard like this. That'd be suicide. And she wasn't worth killing yourself over; what'd that'd gain? Nothing.

So... no need to do anything about him? But, well, it felt rude to pretend that she didn't see him. Worse yet, almost felt dangerous. It was generally best to let shady men know you knew they were there. Made them less likely to be ornery if they knew they were being watched.

So she offered him a nod of acknowledgment.

("shady men" lol)

His arms were crossed, and he didn't return the nod, but his brow furrowed slightly. He made no move to approach her.

(haha I have finally caved and began using my own name as an insult xD)

Ky watched him for half a moment longer. Well, that was rude. But she supposed soldiers tended to be like that. Especially when you didn't know who they were. For all she knew he was --

Ghost?

Fuck. Was he--? She glanced away. She hadn't intended on acknowledging any more ghosts. She didn't want Michael to find out through the grapevines that she could see him. And she also wanted to be out of the habit of acknowledging ghosts in case Michael ever showed up in the same vicinity, so she wouldn't give herself away through impulses like she just did. If this man was a ghost.

She glanced at him again, then away again, and started up the stairs a bit faster.

His eyes and his head tracked her movements, but he didn't follow her.

She shivered, a chill creeping up her spine, and sped up, decidedly refusing to look at him. Gods she was stupid. She needed to get... away from here. Somehow.
