“How?” Ky asked, trying to entertain the idea. She doubted he or Michael would give a fuck about any arguments any of them could think up. But… well… she needed to at least try to be agreeable.

(Hehe Gaius was indeed the MC but I think it's gonna be Tristan now)

"He must be tired, right? Just convince him it isn't worth sticking around."

(FASCINATING… well now we gotta bring the boy in more :eyes: )

“Mm… he seems the type to hang around to spite us, though. Well. Gaius.”

(I've gotta change like everyone's names though
Cuz I'm deep into world building and Roman names ain't gonna cut it in a Scandinavian-inspired setting)

"What does he think of Gaius?" she asked. "You said he doesn't seem very sorry but he has regrets."

Made the switch years ago tho to the point I’m not entirely sure why. I think it probably had something to do with me having a hard time coming up with a masc version of it)(and her best friends brother was named Kyan and now I have no idea for a name for Talia’s brother lol)

“… we mostly argued about Tomhas,” Ky admitted. “But he… seems fond of Gaius. But in a jerky way. Like. He’s mad at the amputation because he thinks Gaius only made himself weaker. That sort of thing.”

"Fond?" She frowned. "That's very strange to think of."

( :’) ) (tho honestly I just went digging to see if I ever renamed him and I found an early draft in which she had a brother and her brother's name was Kyan. And then in a slightly later draft, her name was apparently Kyanna (honestly no memory of this iteration). I stand by Kylia being the better choice)

“Yeah…” Ky was quiet for a moment. “It’s really bizarre, honestly. It’s almost like he wants to feel guilty but is too much of a narcissist to be physically capable of it.”

(I fully agree. Kyanna works for a different character.)

She wrinkled her nose. "That's in character. I'd like to have words with him."

“No you don’t,” she murmured quietly, words deliberate. “I thought so, too. But he just makes you angry and feel bad about yourself. Even though he’s the terrible one.” Well, she was, too. “…the worse one.”

"Can't hurt to have a go." She crossed her arms. "Next time you see him somewhere where there aren't many people I want to talk to him. See if he can make me feel bad about who I am or who I've married."

Ky blushed but nodded hesitantly. It was a reasonable request. If she hadn’t already had her feelings hurt by him, she’d probably feel the same way. “I mean… he usually is in the library I think.” God what if he had watched her read Michael’s journal? She felt ill just thinking about it. “I… could translate I guess.”

"The library's too public; it'll look like I'm ranting at nothing." She frowned. "Maybe in a quiet corner."

“…maybe,” she allowed. “I… guess we could look for him and ask him to go somewhere private?” That seemed dangerous.

"Oh, I don't want to orchestrate it. I'd prefer that it's just a happen-upon-you sort of thing."

“… I don’t want him to happen upon me.”
