He'd thought he was doing so good about being quiet and still enough to melt into the background. "Um... learning to read is taking up about all the brainpower I have, sir. I'm not very smart... but Ky has been very, very patient with me. So... I think there is a prayer of me picking up reading. But nothing else."

It didn’t change how many languages Ky could speak and write. But she kept telling him to stop comparing himself to her. So. Well. Maybe he just needed someone else to compare himself to. Someone who didn’t pick up languages second nature.
