"Oh." Ky hesitated a long moment. That was a question she hadn't expected to get asked. Ever. Why did he care what she wanted? Why would he help her find a hobby? That'd just be an inconvenience. "... I haven't really thought about it, sir. I'm open to suggestions!"

Even though the thought was terrifying. Imagine having a desire. Imagine asserting it. She could never be so bold.
Tadaaki was glad he didn't have to. Ky had taken the risk in asking if he could learn to read and then took up the task of teaching him herself. All he had to do was deal with the embarrassment of Emery watching him stumble through his lessons -- and even that wasn't too terrible, since Emery was gracious and pretended not to pay close attention. He had it made. He felt bad for Ky, but there wasn't anything he could do to help her.

Ky was trying to think through it in case he suddenly doubled back on asking her. What were her interests? Did Aleth bleed all of them out her? Drain them out of her veins along with her self-esteem? She couldn’t seem to remember anything about herself.
