Ky nodded, glancing ahead.

"So." Emery was walking back to Ky's room with her. "What was your favorite thing you saw on the tour?"

“The library,” she said. “I mean… this whole place is absolutely phenomenal! But, well… that was… fantastic. I enjoyed it very much… thank you for the tour!”

"It was my pleasure!" He bowed as they stopped outside the door. "Lots of people love the library! I hope you come to enjoy its contents as well."

Ky smiled and bowed in return, then hesitated and awkwardly curtsied instead. That’s what girls were supposed to do… right? She put her hand on the knob uncertainly, trying to read what was socially acceptable. Did this mean it was time to be locked in again? Or would that be rude? Probably not, since he’d brought her back here. So he wanted her to go inside? She hesitantly pushed the door open but kept her gaze on him.

"See you in a bit." He smiled, then turned as he heard footsteps. "Oh, Ga--Lord Ash! Great timing; Ky and I just finished our tour."
"How fortuitous," Gaius replied evenly, approaching the door. He gave Ky a nod as he saw her.

She tensed a bit. Fortunate for who? Certainly not her. She forced a little smile and dipped her head to him. “Hello!”

"How are you today?" he asked her. Emery gave him a nod and gave Ky a thumbs up, then left.

“Well, sir.” She forced herself to let go of the handle; no opportunity to hide now. “And you?”

"Well enough. Would you care to talk here or in my study? Or perhaps the library?"

Was ‘no’ an option?

“Wherever you prefer, sir.” She smiled. “No preference.”

"I'll let you decide," he replied coolly. "You're the one being interviewed."

Her smiled faltered. She didn’t like that. She didn’t like that at all.

Was she getting psychoanalyzed about which she’d pick? Probably.

Gods. She didn’t like making decisions.

Especially not ones like this.

What did he want her to pick?

She… didn’t know him well enough to know. Perhaps his study, but she definitely didn’t want that. The very thought made her anxious. But she also didn’t want to have to try to play it cool in the library — that would do nothing but split her focus. So… “um… I mean… I-I don’t mind either way. But…um… I suppose we’re already here?”

That would also save him the trouble of having to walk her back here to lock her up. Two birds, she supposed.
