Ky fell silent. She was allowed to get it, too. Aleth would hardly be Tomhas's biggest problem if the gods and the trolls and gods knew what else were coming to attack them all. Which meant there was no reason to keep her promise to Gaius. No reason at all. The energy of the grove seemed more appropriate than the ice garden, anyway. She'd get it right this time.

"But sometimes you just can't have what you want," she went on. "You have to think rationally--like in the library. I want to be home right now. But I said tomorrow, and Gaius said no, and he was right. So I'm going home in two days. What you want isn't possible in a lot of ways. But you have a life still. It'd new and different, but you can shape it any way you want to."

Ada drew back slowly, eyeing her. "That's not entirely true, though."

What could she have possibly just lied about? "... what's not?"

"You're doubting my words. That's a form of untruth if you speak it. Your thought process is elsewhere."

Gods, that was an annoying ability. Ky rested her chin on her knees. "I don't have to agree with you."

"We'll see." Were non-answers lies, too? What were the rules for engaging with her?

Ada sighed and got up. "Let's go get some sweets before we go off to bed, okay?"

Ky looked at her for a moment, then nodded and stood up. She didn't like eating when she was upset. But, well, it seemed her body wanted sugar today for some reason. And with the state she was in, she didn't feel like denying it. Besides -- maybe it was good to fatten her up a bit, since she wasn't eating much in general.

"Me too." Ky agreed, pulling her furs closer around her. She supposed she'd have to take these off eventually. But not yet. "It's miserable."
