“Probably.” Zander smirked. “A moment ago she announced she was going to be friends with every person here.”

"She may try. I expect Lord Ash may not be very welcoming." He paused. "Then again, I have seen him with his children and it seems they have a good understanding of one another."

Tadaaki looked between Ivar and Zander anxiously. He’d gathered they were talking about Tasia, but now they were talking about ‘Ash’ and he was left to assume the worst. Was he offended by Tasia’s behavior and planning to complain to Gaius? Gods. They hadn’t even been here for twenty four hours yet.
“I’m sorry,” Tadaaki said, looking first at Ivar, then at Zander. “Can you tell him I’m sorry?”
“Whatever for?” Zander blinked at him.
“For Tasia—“
“I didn’t do anything wrong!” Tasia proclaimed.
“Stop.” He snapped, giving her a warning glance before looking back at Zander. “She meant no offense. I apologize for both of us. Please don’t tell Lord Ash she’s being obnoxious — I promise we’re working on it.”

Ivar looked between them, brow furrowing. "What is he saying?"

“He’s not angry,” Zander assured Tadaaki, then looked at Ivar. “He heard you say Lord Ash and assumed you were upset about Tasia’s energy. He offered apologies for any offense. I assured him you’re not angry.”

"Tell him he has a fine daughter," Ivar told him. "He should not be so quick to worry about her; she is merely doing what children do."

Zander relayed this to Tadaaki, who blushed and offered a shy smile. “Thank you.” He looked at Zander. “How do you say thank you?”
Zander told him, and Tadaaki repeated it after him clumsily, looking at Ivar.

"His pronunciation is worse than the girl's," he said grimly, but dipped his head.

Tadaaki flushed even more, looking between them, sensing that he’d done something wrong.
“You’re okay,” Zander assured him, then looked back at Ivar. “He’s had less practice with languages than she or I have. He works with his hands more than his head or his mouth.”

"I can understand that, so do I." He nodded. "Labor with hands is just as important as labor with the head."

“Absolutely,” Zander agreed with a nod. “I think every last person at this table would agree with you there.”

"That is good." He turned back to his meal, lumping another slice of fish down. "I am glad to see salmon is a delicacy down here."

Zander nodded. “It’s quite good,” he agreed. “What was your favorite meal back home?”

"There is a massive elk where I come from whose meat is rich and red," Ivar replied wistfully. "Larger that the ones down here. It is quite a feat to catch and kill one."

“I’m sure,” Zander mused. “Do you tend to hunt alone, or is it a social event?”
