Sara watched her husband's scarecrow features relax as he forced himself to try and drift off, sighing softly. A tiny hand came up and covered her mouth.
"Your breath is stinky too," Mattathias whispered. Sara chuckled softly and let out a great gust of air, and he shrieked quietly and covered his nose. "Ewwwww Mama!"
"Go to bed, my love," Sara told him with a grin, pulling him closer and settling herself tighter into the circle. Her smile faded even as she felt the gentle rise and fall of his breaths as she watched Gaius's brow inevitably furrow--in irritation, or was he having some inner conflict as he so often did? She reached across the pile of their children and took his mangled hand in hers, rubbing it gently with her thumb. His brow crinkled further, then relaxed again and he sighed through his nose.
