There are so many delightful ways to cook a potato! What is the best way to cook a potato? The poll only allowed for 10 options so if there's one missed here (gnocchi, soup, dumplings, casserole) that is your favorite feel free to add a new option!

And please justify your answer. :)

oh noooooo you're not gonna make me choose are you???

Aah I've gotta go with potato wedges because those are so nostalgic to me and just so delicious, but roasted and mashed come close second.

Hash Browns because 1) nostalgia, and 2) they're kind of like combining the fluffiness of good mashed potatoes with the crispiness of good french fries.

Hmm you make a strong point @whatchamacallit - > potato wedges are pretty delish. I usually make potato wedges for thanksgiving instead of mashed, because I think they're just as homey and are way quicker too!

I agree with @Liminality here ~ I think in my opinion hashbrowns are the best way to cook a potato. Here are some reasons why:

> Good with toppings, or without (ie. you can really dress up hashbrowns with eggs / bacon / cheese / extra butter / salt / pepper but you don't need to. This is not conversely true for some other forms of potato (ie. baked potato, potato soup, roasted potato that are unfortunately somewhat dull if left unadorned.)

> Breakfast Food Item. Anything that can be eaten for breakfast is ultimately a better food item. Think about it. Toast... boring. French Toast... amazing. Potato... okay. HaShBrOwnS ... wonderous. Being a breakfast food item also means they can actually be eaten at any time of the day whereas it'd be a little odd to eat potato soup or gnocchi for breakfast I think?

> They are texturally superior to most potato products. Hashbrowns have a certain crunchiness to them that is only also achieved with really crunchy french fries or tater-tots. These are good items too, but hashbrowns I think hit just the right balance.

> Not too greasy. French fries & tater-tots sometimes are just too greasy / fried to me. Don't get me wrong, those are still good food items, but again hashbrowns are the winner.

> Also they just have that "old hometown diner feel" if you know what I mean?? Like they just feel very brunchy and happy and like with hashbrowns you can just anticipate accidentally spilling some maple syrup on your clothes and drinking a few cups of strong restaurant coffee while chit-chatting over the table with your family or friends. Hashbrowns are a good vibe. :)

- > The only negative that I can think of with hashbrowns, is that they aren't as simple to make as mashed potatoes or baked potatos or like frozen french fries.

any more alternative opinions on this important matter?

Mashed potatoes, but ONLY if they been peeled and mashed to a substance that doesn't have any lumps and you put salt in it.

I'm so torn because I love potatoes in whatever way they may be cooked Dx

Voted scalloped potatoes because 1) the way they are cut is SO awesome I mean, it's thin potato slices ?? 2) the combination of potato + cheese. They are top tier comfort food for me and taste sooo good. The flavor *chef's kiss*

That being said, hashbrowns are a close second. They're less rich and more plain--not a bad thing, just different! They make a perfect side to anything because they're more neutral than scalloped potatoes and the crispy-ness is awesome.

I do love a crispy curly fry too. Those are up there in my top potato forms. :D

I don´t know if this or that other thread is stranger. Anyways...

I like my potatoes roasted in the pan with a selection of my own spices. But the potatoes have to be cut very small.

Another great way to prepare potatoes is to boil them in their skins after seasoning them with caraway seeds. You can then also prepare a herb sauce to go with them.

Boil ‘em, mash ‘em, put ‘em in a stew—

Jk. That’s intriguing. I don’t know what caraway seeds are
