"Oh, you have a ship?" he said, partially to her, but mostly voicing his realization. "So you being wet when I found you, it had to do with that, didn't it?"
She scowled, "That's none of your business," she grumbled. She was not going to explain how that glitter-drenched situation came to pass, especially not to someone who's blood she'd just lapped up like a fucking animal.
James nodded slightly, watching as Kate worked on wrapping his wrist. He wished he didn't feel so spent, otherwise he would've quickly done it himself. There was a small pause of silence before he spoke again.
"So... I know that wasn't nearly as much as you said you needed. But do you feel even a little better?"
He hummed again, quietly in the back of his throat. "Good." Then it was worth it. She wasn't dying of hunger, at least. For now. They'd have to figure out another way to get more blood eventually, he was sure, but for the time being, she'd be okay.
They just needed to hang on long enough for her to get back to Neverland.
"Ah." James looked down into his lap. "Probably Hoss, even though you bit him. I don't know if Rita would tell the others about me, but Hoss wants me dead more than he wants any money he could get from my capture, so... probably him. At least."
"What the fuck is that guy's deal, anyway? What's he got against you that makes him hate you so much?" she looked James up and down, "I mean, as far as anyone was concerned, before your little boyband poster was found, you were just some sad drunk guy."
James's head felt so, so fuzzy. He was hearing Kate, and he understood what she was saying, but the concept of sleep felt very alluring. He tried very hard not to close his eyes again.
His eyebrows pinched together slightly as his gaze drifted back to his wrist.
"That was what I was hoping for, yeah," he said. "But that's not why he wants me dead." There was another pause, and he pulled his wrist back from Kate, now that it was all tied up, and rested it in his lap. His limbs felt loose and weak, and he didn't trust himself to move too much without actually fainting.
"It's my fault his brother is dead," he said quietly. "It was an accident, really, but... well, he didn't see it that way."
James found his bandaged wrist and out as much pressure on it as he could manage. He didn’t know if the bleeding had stopped, but he didn’t feel like he was getting any more coherent.
