The Schooling of the Desolate

June watched Raptor with narrowed eyes, she didn't trust him, not for a second. She turned back to the board, she'd handle Raptor if need be. She felt the dizzy, weak feelings coming on. June refused to acknowledge them, as far as she was concerned she couldn't afford you. She wrote on the board, looking behind her every few moments.

Before we leave this room. I need paper. Or I cannot speak.

She underlined the sentence to emphasize it. She sucked her lip into her teeth and chewed on the dead skin. She swayed on her feet, just barely noticeable.



Reggie moved to be slightly more behind Mykel, and Mykel cleared his throat in a rather rugged, awkward fashion.


"Excuse me, but do any of you happen to know where we are? I have work in like, 3 hours."

Julia glanced at the guy who said he had work. "If you haven't noticed, we're sort of stuck somewhere with a knight and a creepy talking doll."

She looked at the doll hesitently. "No offense."

Then she looked back at Raptor. "You seem most capable of getting us out of here. What should we do?"

"I'm not a-" Raptor started to say, only to sigh and give up on trying to correct Julia. It wasn't worth arguing over him being a knight or not. It was more important to figure out how to get out of here, even when Raptor didn't have the slightest idea how he was supposed to do that.

"I don't know how to get out of here," he admitted. "I haven't ever been in a situation like this before."

He glanced around the room, gaze lingering on the state of it.

"...We should head to the library or the main office," he suggested. "One of them might have an explanation of what happened here. If we figure that out, we might be able to figure out how to get home."

June was a bit peeved at this point. They were ignoring her. Deliberately or accidentally, she didn't really care. She wrote on the board much more aggressively, using long, quick strokes instead of her careful ones from before.

Paper. Or I cant speak. She draws a hard line under it.



Mykel huffed at the girl who tried to "point out the obvious" about their situation. She didn't seem all too kind.

"Oh right. Sorry about that, June." Julia said, her eyes flitting to where the girl had written her name.

She dashed towards the front desk in the room, which was most likely the teachers' desk. Opening a drawer and finding a couple of pieces of paper and a pencil with a good amount of eraser at the bottom, she smiled at herself, then gave it to June.

"Is this okay?"

"I'm sorry," Raptor apologized, shifting Mary so he could hold her a little better. "I should have been paying more attention to what you were writing..."

He looked away - a wave of embarrassment washing over him.

"I saw," Sabrina said, "but I'm not exactly able to do a lot when stuck in a doll."

Ima take Mykel and Reggie boy out of this one. They're great and all, but they feel a lot more like filler then I'd like them too and don't seem to be filling any actual purpose other than bringing Mary and Sabrina to the group. So they won't be appearing anymore.

June nods a thank you and takes the paper from Julia's hands. Clutching it to her chest and moving to stand by the door to signify she was ready to go.

Now that the group was prepared and ready to go, they left behind the vaguely disturbing room for an even more disturbing hallway. Raptor was a little comforted by no longer having to worry about any creepy, childlike laughter - now that they knew Sabrina and Mary were the culprits of the weird noises, he could actually anticipate it.

Or, at least, he thought they were.

He was quickly proven otherwise when creepy laughter suddenly filled the hallway again.

And when he glanced down at Mary in his arms, she hadn't even opened her mouth.

"...Do you have a friend here?" he asked, his voice nervous but hopeful.

Mary shook her head. "Sabrina's my only friend!"

He looked down at Sabrina for confirmation.

"Mary's right," the demon said. "I'm her only friend here, and her other friends don't sound like that."

Raptor stiffened. "So then..."

"That was probably a ghost," Sabrina said. "Like 'I want to play with you forever' kind of ghost."

"Playing forever sounds nice," Mary said, her voice a little groggy - was she about to fall asleep? The last thing Raptor needed right now was for her to fall asleep. She had just heard there was a ghost out there. How could she sleep after that?
