Levi came to a stop and stared at her.

The question had just been meant to pass the time. If she had turned it back on him, he would have said that he was from a small town in Connecticut - no need to bring up anything that would reveal he wasn't exactly a normal teenage boy. But then Marian had given him an answer like that. Now he was starting to think that maybe this had been done by design. Marian and him would make quite the interesting pair to bring here, considering what his history was.

He wasn't sure about it. He still needed to know more about why Marian had been on the run, and if their situations were even close to similar. For all he knew, she was just a runaway kid who no idea of the hidden side of the world.

"Why have you been on the run?" he asked.

Marian also stopped and looked at him. "I...I have..something that makes other people want to hurt me. Because I'm different."
"Those moments when your in so deep, it feels easier to just swim down"

"I'm erasing myself from the narrative. Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted when you broke her heart

It wasn't much of an answer, but Levi took it. He glanced at the hand that was currently resting on the railing. He was different, too, and the truth had a tendency to scare pretty much anyone other than Juniper and Charlotte. He met Marian's gaze for a moment, then kept walking right up the stairs - even though that meant passing her.

"That's too bad," Levi said. "You shouldn't be persecuted for being different, but, hey, us humans are stupid like that."

Marian quickly caught up. "You seem like a pretty good person, but if you could see what I can do, I'm not so sure you would be saying that."

Levi looked over at her. For the briefest moment, his eyes danced between green and purple, ultimately returning to their original hue of green. The sight was just short enough to possibly be considered a trick of the light. "I'm not sure you'd be saying that if you could see what I could do," Levi shot back. He had to admit that he was intrigued. Was she more like him than he had expected - not just a normal human, but someone with magic running through her veins?

Spoiler
I know this sounds kind of random, but does Marian have magic? Levi can smell magic, so it might be fun having him smell her magic if she has it.

((She does have magic))

Marian sighed again. They had reached the top of the stairs and Marian opened the door. They stepped inside a huge room, filled with...odds and ends.

He started to drift away from Marian once they entered the room, searching for anything that might provide a clue as to what was going on. He scanned the area around him. Though there was a plethora of random things, nothing really stuck out at him. He frowned. Just as he was about to move towards another part of the room, he was hit by a terrible smell. He slapped his hand over his nose. The smell was frustratingly familiar - he had definitely smelled it before, and it seemed to be coming from-

Oh.

He knew that smell.

He turned, hand still covering his noise as he looked over at Marian. "You have magic," he plainly stated. No need to make it a question when he knew it to be the truth.

She didn't seem like a threat just yet, so he kept up the same friendly persona he had been using since they first met. "So, what exactly are you, then?" He was all smiles and cheerful tones of voice, but he was studying her - waiting for her to reveal something that would confirm if she was one of them or not.

Marian just looked at him. He seemed to really want to know. She just sighed and then stretched her arms up and out. Golden wings came out from her shoulders and her hair curled at the edges. Vines started to crawl down the walls.
"I can fly, talk to birds and plants, and grow plants." She said, miserably.

He couldn't help it. The moment the wings started sprouting from her back, he stumbled into the wall behind him with a look of shock written across his face. He knew of nothing that possessed wings back there, and, though the vines reminded him of the gods, he knew she wasn't one. He stared at her for several more moments before finally regaining his composure.

"That's incredible," he said.

Pause.

"I'm not human myself," he admitted, his eyes flashing purple as he spoke.

Marian looked up, her face still sad. "Really? Then this doesn't make you want to kill me?"

His heart broke at the question she asked, and he felt anger rise up from within at the implications of it. Her powers were relatively tame compared to what he had been dealt, but she had grown up solely on Earth - Earth, whose people had a tendency to cast out anything that was different.

"It doesn't," he promised her. "I make it a personal rule of mine not to judge someone based on their power - I'd be a hypocrite if I did."

Marian smiled. "It's nice to find someone else who has magic. I used to think I was the only one."

As she finished talking, a door creaked.

He gave her a smile. "You'd be-"

He abruptly cut himself off as the noise registered. He looked around the room to determine what door had moved, but that was difficult when he wasn't familiar with the area.
