"OH MY GOD WE'RE STAR PIRATES!" Ari exclaimed excitedly. "JAMES WE'RE FLYING IN THE SKY. WE'RE FLYING. I DIDN'T KNOW PEOPLE COULD FLY! I THOUGHT ONLY BIRDS COULD FLY! Or are we floating? Is there flying if there isn't ground to fly above?"
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
James blinked quickly as Ari's volume increased dramatically again. He put a hand on Ari's back, patting him. "Ooooookay, yeah. Something like that. Controlled floating in space, yes."
But then he looked at Dante, who seemed to be using terms from a more technologically advanced civilization that he couldn't entirely grasp. It sounded like she also had ideas on how to find answers.
"Where would we check for an AI program?" he asked.
"Hm?" Dante glanced over at James, tearing her admiring gaze from the halls of the ship. "Oh, that would depend. A good bet would be the cockpit- usually AI software is accessible through there. Plus, we would be able to check the engine stats while we were at it."
"Nope!" said Taber, who had ran to the window as soon as he'd learned what space was. He watched the tiny specks of light that stretched out in all directions, surrounded by an overwhelming blackness. It almost reminded him of where he'd come from.
"Hello, darkness!" Taber said into the void of space.
Runi crossed her arms and rested a hand underneath her chin. "Probably towards the front of the ship," she mused, "but it's not like we know where we are-"
She suddenly froze. Her skin became several shades lighter, and her eyes widened as she stared right behind Sune. Sune and Maahes both slowly turned to see what she was staring at.
There was a woman standing right behind them.
A woman whose mouth was moving, but no words were leaving it.
Maahes gave a startled cry. Sune stumbled back a few steps, tripped over his own two feet and fell promptly to the floor. The woman looked more than a little irritated by their reaction, but it was hard to tell if that was the true reason or if it was from her inability to speak.
She reached a hand out. It flickered as she tried to grab onto Maahes, but the spirit had darted back away from her. She frowned. Furrowed her brows. Now she didn't just look irritated - she looked angry.
"Oh." Dante raised an eyebrow at the woman and stepped closer, reaching out in an attempt to wave her hand through her form. "Interesting. She looks very solid." This was mumbled to herself.
"What exactly are you trying to say?" She addressed the woman directly, narrowing her eyes and tilting her head.
Dante's hand went right through the angry woman, who promptly threw her hands up in frustration when Dante issued a question. She tried to say something else, but came to an abrupt stop and did what Maahes assumed was a sigh from the way her shoulders slumped afterwards. This was followed by what had to be another quick string of words.
James had admittedly been very surprised at the sight of the alleged "ghost" of a woman, and remained frozen - firmly planted in the place where he was as he saw the others panic more outwardly. His eyes widened when he saw Dante's hand go through her but then he looked up at the woman's mouth. If she couldn't speak audibly, he could read her lips.
"What's the point in trying to argue... you can't hear me any... anyways," he repeated quietly. "That's what she said."
Ari blinked. "Whoa James, you can talk to dead people?! That's so cool, I didn't know you could do that!"
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
"OOoooh," he said with realization. That made more sense, though he was, admittedly, a little disappointed. Talking to dead people would've been cool.
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
The woman blinked. Then she excitedly rambling on, her lips moving quickly as she darted over to James and - much to Maahes' surprise - attempted to throw her arms around him. This failed spectacularly. She went straight through him, and was stumbling so much as she tried to regain her balance that she went tumbling through Sune, too.
(This, of course, made Sune turn even paler than he already was and make a beeline for Maahes.)
The woman finally stopped, spun around and pointed at James with her eyes wide. She said something again, cut through the cowering Sune and stopped right in front of him. She tried to hug him again, but this time settled for just wrapping her arms around him instead of a running embrace.
He had to closely watch her just to keep up. "Oh thank god!", she said. "Someone can understand me!"
"Yes-" he began to say, before he stumbled back - even if irrationally so - when the woman rushed him, only to pass through him. He whirled around just in time to catch what she said.
"Wait, I remember you! You're James Hawke. Oh man, I completely forgot you could read lips."
James stared blankly at her, and then just blankly out into space - he has frozen in place again - as she came close for a 'hug.' Somehow, she knew his name. That meant she had to have been at the masquerade, or the library, or something. He didn't recognize her, but she could've been one of those people that changed form or was in a disguise. Or she could actually, somehow, by some miracle, be someone who knew him from Nye. He tensed.
"Whoa." Dante mumbled under her breath, very surprised at this turn of events. She studied the lady and attempted to analyze her, though it made her head ache terribly. Of course, there was no wifi connection- they were in dead space.
