"I don't know if you're being serious or not," Jaron whispered matter-of-factly. "But, if it helps, you'll find that...special person for you. It might take a while, but...yes. I am not sure why you couldn't."

"Oh, cool," Kartiel said. He thought for a moment, then added, "Shouldn't we be going with them, then? I don't know about you guys, but I'd prefer to get back home sooner rather than later."

He looked imploringly in Lucifer's direction. After a handful of seconds, he gave a hesitant nod in agreement.

"It probably would be better to stick together," Maahes agreed. He glanced around the deserted town. "Something...something about this place just didn't feel right. I can't explain why, but I don't think it's a good idea to stay separated for very long."

Orrin stared down at the ground beneath his feet.

"It's...complicated," he said. "I'm not exactly normal."

"Oh," said Jaron. He followed Reyes's gaze. "You look very normal."

Kartiel looked over at Adeline. "What about you?" he asked. "Are you okay with us joining the rest of the group?"

xXx

Orrin gave a small smile at the comment, lifting his head up ever so slightly to look in Jaron's direction. "It's probably because I try to."

Adeline jumped a little when she was addressed. She had been staring off and looking at the buildings again. Turning to Kartiel, she quickly nodded.

"Oh, yes. It would be nice not to be split up"

Jaron paused and blinked. He hadn't thought that Reyes was doing that on purpose. How odd. How could somebody pretend to be normal? "You're doing a very good job," Jaron whispered. "But why?"

"Then let's go!" Kartiel announced, gesturing ahead of him. Someone had to lead this procession, and it seemed like he was the most likely person to at the moment. James was too moody, Maahes was too, well, Maahes, Lucifer was too quiet, and Adeline seemed to be okay following his lead already. "I think I see Reyes and Jaron up there, so let's meet up with them and see if they know where the others are."

xXx

"People don't like things that are different," he said. He looked ahead at the building before them. "Especially when those things defy all logic and reason."

He glanced over at Jaron. "Remember how I talked to that ghost? That's not normal where I come from, and I actually pretend like I can't do that on my show because I don't want people to realize the truth about ghosts."

Adeline nodded and took a few large steps in order to catch up. Not wanting to be left behind she quickly walked so that she was closer to Kartiel. Almost unconsciously, she reached out to gently clutch his shirt in hand.

Jaron looked down at his feet. "I don't get people," he said. "Machines make more sense."

"I don't know too much about technology," Orrin admitted, "but I can agree that humans can make absolutely no sense-"

"You're not a human?"

Orrin, though he was embarrassed about the reaction the moment after it occurred, jumped in surprise when he heard someone suddenly speak up from behind him. He spun around to see that a group of five people had suddenly joined him and Jaron. Thytes and Kendrik weren't present among them, which led him to believe that they were still having that "discussion" that Kendrik had alluded to when they split up.

The person who had asked the question was Levi/Kartiel, who was currently looking up at him with an intrigued expression on his face. "You just made a comment about humans being confusing," he said, a completely serious look on his face. "It could just be an expression, but ever since I met you, I've been getting the feeling that you're more like me than a normal human."

Orrin hesitated. "I don't-"

Lucifer looked between Kartiel and Orrin.

"It's okay," the Devil himself said, fiddling with the pencil that had been previously tucked behind his ears. "I can see your soul. It doesn't look exactly like a human's, but most of the people here aren't human."

"I'm not human!" Adeline raised her hand quickly at this, trying to reassure the man. She slowly lowered it a moment later, wanting to kick herself. Of course, anyone who looked at her would know that. "If it... counts for anything."

Jaron looked between Reyes and the group of people that had just met up with them. Save for the transparent girl, the group's members all basically looked human. Strange.

The fox pulled a small wrench from a pocket and maneuvered it between his fingers. "There's a lot of things hiding here, isn't there?" he whispered, lowering his head. The idea that the people around him were hiding who they were made him extremely uncomfortable - how could he trust them? He didn't like two-faced people.

"No sh*t," James commented idly.

Just earlier up in the cave, Kartiel was having a break down about Lucifer had horns or something even though Kartiel was some kind of reptilian draconic person. James didn't care anymore, not that he cared in the first place. He was annoyed before, and he was annoyed again. It didn't matter if the others there weren't human. He could understand if they were pretending to be human for their own safety if they came from environments hostile to non-humans. Or even insecurities about not being human, he could get. But when the others started making a bit deal about other people not matching their norm it gave him a headache.

If people wanted to keep their true identities secret, he didn't care either. If it kept them from freaking out in the midst of their already increasingly confusing crisis then by all means, he wanted them to do what worked for them.

"I'm human," he added. "Not that it matters."
