Taking a step back, Aegeas gaped at Kartiel. "How much of an idiot are you?" he said.

"Come now, Aegeas, remember what I said about bygones? For tonight, until we regain sobriety, Kartiel is our brother in arms." I told him reproachfully.
"To our stupid, stupid brother." I said cheerfully, raising my glass in toast to him.

Raiden slipped into the kitchen and grabbed a wine glass as quietly as possible on his way to the fridge. He opened it, took out a juice box, walked over to the rest of the people and sat down.
He placed the juice box inside the wine glass after putting the straw in, and proceeded to sip on his juice box in the wine glass. He looked around with a straight face. "So what's going on fellas?"

Two possibilities exist: Either we are alone in the universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.
"I'm a god," Kartiel started to reply in response to what Aegeas had said. "I can never permanently die, so what will a little alco-"
He caught sight of Raiden out of the corner of his eye. His gaze didn't linger on the way that Raiden was drinking his juice box. If he hadn't dealt with all of this he might have found the sight to be fairly amusing. But right now all he could focus on was what Raiden was wearing.
"Raiden, why the Hell are you wearing one of my shirts?"
Raiden shrugged. "It's a cool shirt, bruh. I've also got a few shirts for Boris and Aegeas over here," he spoke while bringing a box forward from behind him. In it were a couple of shirts, specifically, star wars shirts. "Concerned about the amount of Star Wars stuff I found here, but anyway. Boris and Aegeas, you guys can take your pick."

"Don't you dare take my shirts," he said, storming over to the box. "Some of those are limited edition shirts, and I'm not going to let you rip and dirty them."
"I-I was just heading to the library," he said, his voice faltering. "My essence can't handle any sort of drink, so I-I thought it'd be best for me to go back to the library."
Nadira and Codix looked at each other.
He took a deep breath. "It-It's not like I really belong with you guys," he continued. He was trying his best not to cry - honest - but this guise's eyes were stubbornly starting to appear moist. He couldn't even really cry; all his essence could do was replicate what it would have looked like leading up to a tear falling. And it wasn't even supposed to do that - he was so used to pretending to be human that his essence had just accepted that as a natural response.
He just wanted to belong. He just wanted to be back in the place where everyone knew the truth about him, and be back in the place where he wasn't an outsider. "I need to find a way back through the stargate," he concluded, once again turning as he started to step out through the door.
"We could come with you," Codix said.
Maahes stopped.
"I could scan through the files," Nadira said. "That would save a lot of time."
"And Bo and I could help you read through the books!" Codix eagerly added.
xXx
"The door was locked!" Kartiel replied, exasperated.
Aegeas ignored the bickering. He didn't understand what these star wars were, but he has more than happy to have a shirt that wasn't bloody.
Slipping it on, he watched Raiden and Kartiel feud. He wondered if he should get another drink, but ultimately decided that seeing Kartiel angry was more entertaining.
Spoiler
Somehow I really like the idea of Aegeas in a tank top.

Kartiel's indignant fury was nourishment for my soul. Drinking his wine, wearing one of his curious, stretchy, future shirts, watching him lose more and more composure over Raiden breaking into his room (I had to ask him how he did that, once our truce was over) was enough to make this entire escapade feel almost worth it.
I took a second sip of the foreign wine. The full potency of it came upon me with a delayed, but satisfyingly concussive effect.
Never mind. It was just worth it.

Something about Raiden drinking from a box made Aegeas laugh. He slammed a fist on the table, staggered back, and fell onto the floor.
As Aegeas stared up at the ceiling, which swayed side-to-side whenever his eyes focused on the people around him, he realized he'd probably had too much to drink. Oops.

Kartiel threw himself into the nearest chair with a frustrated groan. Reaching over across the table for the wine bottle again, because screw it, he mulled over how horribly wrong this entire escapade was going. Why did none of his plans ever go the way that they were supposed to-
He paused, the bottle's rim pressed right up against his lips but not yet pouring any liquid into his mouth.
The experiments had been perfect. He had made sure of it this time. How could they have possibly died--
--Dead, the report read. Dead, dead, dead - every single last one of them had died in that stupid little cavern. He shouldn't have tried to split his attention between two different groups at the same time. Now they were all dead and he was going to have to start all over and he wasn't sure he could do it again--
--This wasn't supposed to happen. This wasn't supposed to happen. They weren't supposed to get caught, and they weren't supposed to end up in front of him. He looked over at her and saw her trembling beside him as they were roughly thrown to the ground. How could he have failed so miserably--
