But I mean, I think it would be a little convenient if cold iron were used to ward off evil spirits, since that would mean the group could just kill the beings with their swords. Right? So maybe hot iron would do the trick. It brings a little bit more suspense, since it's difficult keeping iron hot, but eh that's just my opinion.

Cold iron can't kill a spirit, Just prevent them from harming you. It's why people have "Lucky Horseshoes" It was tradition to nail a horseshoe over the entrance of your house to keep witches, sorcerers, spirits, and demons from entering. They can't cross over it.
