Yep! For more flavor with that, you'll likely want heavy armor and musculature (male OR female) since lancing takes a tremendous amount of strength and agility to dish out and not take in.

What about just wielding a lightweight metal staff? I'm imagining an inexperienced young adult, slight of frame. Would that work?

Oh, no. By lancer on the front page, it means sidekick. It's a trope. Lancer the class is different and totally welcome!

@RippleGylf, your character would make for a good sixth ranger from what I've seen thus far. It sounds like s/he would use a combination of Valon's and Tynan's styles.

Update - I just got to chapter 1G (sorry, I'm reading slowly). Will hopefully be finished by this weekend.

I'm going to begin writing for Chapter 2: Home tomorrow. This comes with some patch notes that I think everyone will find relieving and helpful.



1. Leveling and experience have been done away with.

2. Spell parameters, histories, knowledge, and factors have been removed.

3. Gold is now only an in-story concept.

4. The nation of Howlengale and the Silverlake Lowlands have been unlocked.

5. Exposure to the harsh elements and wild aether will awaken primal energy in our heroes, allowing for a slight increase in magic.

6. Posts should no longer exceed 1000 words in length to ease the psychological daunt of creating an entry.

it's a bit like shaking an old habit...you have to take baby steps.

OH! @RippleGylf! We really liked the sound of a Dragoon (which is what a polearm/lance wielder is in fantasy terms) -- so if you're cool with it, you can be the dragoon who meets us at the border to the next country we're headed to.

There's still plenty of real-life time between now and then, though. I don't think I said this, but uh.

My storybooks are slow-burning flames. As long as the people who say they'll tend to it tend to it, it'll burn to completion; it just takes years. In the last completed SB's case, 2 years and some change. And now it's turned into a personal novel project for me and my best friend!

So the basic message here is not to feel stressed! xD

Oh no, that was something we'd decided before. Like the concept of writing a boss fight with character development and resolution and everything was daunting, so we're trying to roll with posts under 1000 words to keep things relaxed and remember that an entire scene doesn't need to be one post. Sort of a return to how storybookery used to beeeeeeee and how I've rarely done it, admittedly.
