How long should an average piece of writing that you post be? Like, I'm assuming that you wouldn't post 4000 words at one time for one chapter, but I think 100 would be a bit too short.

There isn't a concrete number, really. The average length seems to be anywhere from 500 to 3,000 words. Novels will be posted in smaller segments (either chapter by chapter, or even Chapter 1 Part 1 and Chapter 1 Part 2, that sort of thing). Anything over 3,500 comes across as intimidating, especially if it's a big block of text, so the important thing is to make your post readable. It wouldn't make sense to separate a short story into eight different 200-word posts, obviously, but there is 200-word flash fiction.

Basically? ;) It varies. If a work seems to be going over 3,500-4,000 words, cut it in half and you'll get more reviews.

When do you get to the point where you can edit the thing underneath your name (e.g. writer, junior writer, novelist, etc), and when it comes to that point, how do you edit it?

You can edit it at anytime now! So simply go to My YWS > Profile and you scroll down until you see Custom Title and a blank space. You can add in whatever title you'd like within the character limit as long as it's appropriate.

In the same way you'd upload any other avatar. Are you having problems uploading an animated avatar?

I think you have to find one on the internet and make sure you save it as a .gif file, as opposed to a .jpeg file.

Ben has it right. What you do is right click on the image in question, then select, "Save image as" or whatever you have to click on in order to save a picture to your computer from the box that pops up. The phrase varies from browser to browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.) Next, a box should appear, one where you can give the picture a title and save it to your computer. Before you save it to your computer, make sure you select "save is GIF" in the drop-down box. And that's all there is to it. Usually it's stuck in a single frame and appears to have worked incorrectly, but if you saved the image as a GIF file as I explained, once you upload the image to the site it should start moving. : ) Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Mr.Knightley and BenFranks. I finally was able to get an animated avatar.

I am new to this forum. I want to ask how can we interact with other writers.

Hey Salman!

Interact as in...?

Well, there's always a user's wall. You access a wall by clicking on the person's username.
Then, you have PMs or Private Messages. You can find the link to PM a person below his Avatar and general info. It's a little button with 'PM' on it.

(*points to left of this post.*)

Hope this helped.

is there any way to delete a story you've already posted? Say, an old project your no longer writing on, or whatever?

Not really, but you can lock it. Just go to your first post, edit it, then scroll down to where it says Options (under the save/preview/submit buttons). You'll see the options to lock there.

If you wish to have the text deleted, you can also just edit out all the text.
