@15253 I know this was a joke, but even the Force can be manipulated in a lot of ways. Palpatine shoots lightning bolts with it, Darth Vader chokes you, Luke uses it to jump like a badass, etc.
Also, I can't help but question why you chose to avoid tagging me along with Char and Astral. ...Hmm. I promise I'll try not to jump on conclusions, but a side of me can't help but do it anyways.
@Charizard821 You know, watching the show would make it less intimidating. And you'd understand it better by watching - if you have time, that is. In any case, you BSing your way through all of this is not what I meant. The "feeling" stuff is to help you not having to think about "the syntaxe of the rule of the purpose of the truth of the destiny of the mind of the control of the user" every time Riley uses Aurasphere - and that's why I took Twinkiel as an example, and HxH as a reference.
Wow wow wait. First off, I'm not necessarily asking ANYONE to use Hunter X Hunter's Nen aura system as a base - it's very codified, which makes it complicated. That was just an example to show how complex Aura could become. But I would rather not have a Conjurer Riolu on the loose in the Pokemon World - that would be FREAKIN' OP.
Ok, let's just use a simpler example of reference: Dragon Ball Z. Characters in there can manipulate their Aura - or Ki - to form various type of energy waves (that can pierce, blow up, paralyze, blow away, shield, follow a target, etc), specific shapes (like duplicates or energy swords), and strength/durability enhancements (like the famous Super Saiyan form). Just go with that, it's simple and effective. A few examples:

Final Flash. Um... Name says it all.
Soldat's Ki Blade. Basically a lightsaber.
A Personal favorite: Meta Cooler's Supernova. That thing is specifically designed to destroy a planet, sooooooo... yeah.
Good old Destructo Disk. Another thing that's made to pierce you.
S.S. Deadly Bomber, which can - much like Aurasphere, which according to Pokemon ingame stats never misses unless you dodge - follow an opponet who tries to dodge it.
There. See? Not THAT complicated in that case.
As for Riley learning it, well you essentially need to portray Riley meditating and "seeing his life force" as he does. Foresight can help with that part, but really, you should be able to portray it just fine. I mostly think that because you're a great writer.
(You make it sound like you get intimidated easily Is that the case? Because if so, remind me to be careful with my explanations)

What if I told you that with enough meditation, practice and focus, you find yourself able to see it, then, much later, manipulate it with your will? To these Nen users, saying that you don't get how they can manipulate an energy that YOU can't see - but they can, and they know it's there - is like asking Usain Bolt how the heck can he run as fast as he can with muscles that YOU don't see but HE knows are there and HE knows how to use them. And just like a muscle, Nen/Aura is something that, with practice, can grow stronger. Again, read the page I linked you, or else you'll never understand a word of what I'm talking about. That or just watch Hunter X Hunter, but start with the Heavens Tower Arena arc, which is where Nen is first introduced in the Anime - it's also why said anime gets really interesting. I can even give you the episodes myself, I don't mind, I just want to make sure that you don't get paralyzed and super hesitant due to intimidation. It will also give you ideas as to how to represent Riley doing this training - AKA perceiving what he can't normally see. There's a reason why Lucario always closes his eyes when using the Power of Aura in the Pokemon Anime (he even does that in Smash Bros).

Tempest post is nearly complete. Here's the order so far of it.
Part 1: Tempest goes to look at a homemade mystery dungeon made by some of the village kids while also having foreboding visions of the future that none of you, no matter how hard you try, can stop. Yay.
Part 2: Tempest, home in bed, gets an explanation on the Dimensional Scream as well as the Pidgeys and the Combees. He also begins to read Dusknoir's journal while having more visions.
Part 3: Tempest, healthy again, practices sword work while a mysterious flute plays in the distance.
*raises hand so high that it shoots above the roof of my house and into the clouds which are now dumping snow on this property on Thanksgiving of all days*
