She felt a fire in her gut. Quite a literal one in fact, as she had eaten a hot coal.

The

End
Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. - The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

The night they closed the doors to her temple, Death ran shrieking through the city walls and streaming down its empty streets- not one person would die in their sleep tonight. No touch of cold would lull them, no quiet poison would sweeten their dreams, and no gentle kiss would bid them farewell; she would peel their souls from their flesh and bones and remind them of what it meant to die in pain.
We were born to be amazing.

Adrenaline racing through my blood, I tore through the forest faster than I knew was possible. I could hear it coming, closer and- I let out a yell as I ran into something squishy, red, dripping...
"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost."

Her eyes widened and a feeling of hopelessness overcame her as she discovered the empty container in the trash. Somebody else had eaten the last of the ice cream.

The boy checked under his bed, in the closet, in the drawers, and even on the ceiling for monsters, but he had checked all the wrong places. He should have noticed the fanged teeth when his parents kissed him good night for the last time.

(Improving on Remembrance's story)
The thunder outside boomed out as I watched the electricity lines fall down onto the road, and as the lights inside flickered out, the simple beeping confirmed my darkest fears.

Water is everywhere... giant whirlpool... can't breathe... rancid liquid going up my nose, burning... some stinky brown logs floating past...

I was getting a swirly in an unflushed toilet.

She sat at her desk near the window, watching the rain pour, mistaking floorboard creaks behind her for droplets.

She didn't realize there was something behind her until its claws were inches deep in her neck.
