I held her close, rubbing her back and kissing her on the forehead. "I'm sorry I did that. I'm sorry I scared you. I promise I won't do that again. I promise."

But despite my consoling, something else was bothering her. Something more... I thought back on what had happened at the mansion, at my quick disappearance without any "I love you" or anything, at Gael's taunting words that proclaimed an internal hate for her and an impossible relationship.

I sighed, realizing what was wrong. She was afraid I didn't love her!

"I should have said this earlier, but I wasn't thinking," I whispered in her ear. "And I'm sorry if I made you doubt anything between us or fear that we were not meant to be. But know that I will always love you, Alana, and nothing can change that. Whatever Gael told you is not true. I love you."

****YAY****

Alana felt tears push at her eyes. She clung tighter to his chest letting the few that slipped out dried off on his shirt.

"I love you too." Alana said. "Is Gael dead?"

"No." He replied softly.

"I-i-is he gonna come after us?" She asked pulling back and looking up at him.

"I don't know, Lana." He said softly.

"Just don't leave me." SHe whimpered leanging against him again.

It is only a novel... or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best-chosen language
— Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
