Typically, I pick a "title" first, then write a few chapters and change the title. Why? Because, picking the title first helps me get the basic idea of what the story is about.

Rough Title: Rebellion
Current Title: Inedible Indulgence

Now, I'm incorporating a new method: Lulu Titlescorer

Writer's Digest wrote:Lulu.com's Titlescorer is a fun little diversion that "predicts" whether your title will help your book sell millions of copies or end up in the 99-cent bargain bin. Developed by statisticians, focuses on Attributes commonly found in the most successful titles of the past 50 years.

Both my current works (Inedible Indulgence and Cherry Kisses) received a 63.7, the same score given to Animal Farm! The highest possible score is an 83, so my titles may not be the best, but I'm excited none the less.

Haha, I just said that on the 'Title Feedback' thread. I really haven't written as many stories as I have used the titles for, but now that I have come up with the titles I'm getting some kick butt ideas for stories :D

This is fun, but it doesn't love any of my titles. (I like them, but I keep getting really low scores.)

Neato! I've been toying with a title I wasn't sure about... Though this test gave it a 79.6, lol.

Don't trust the Titlescorer too much! According to it, The Da Vinci Code should have been a disaster.

True, and it wasn't popular until the movie came out, then everyone wanted to read it. By that point, it would be accurate.

Of course, it can never be 100% accurate about a title, but it gives an author a guesstimate of how well his work will do. If he picks a poor title, his piece won't sell. If he picks an average title, he may sell a few, but not billions. And so on...
Yet, when he picks an eye-catching title, people are bound to at least look at it. And chances are they will buy it, and then maybe tell their friends to buy it...

That's fun just to make up random titles off the top of your head and see what you get. =D

I've seen the Lulu title scorer for a while.

The only bad thing is it isn't a human, and dose is calculations based on things of the past and data its been fed. It can't take into consideration how cool it sounds or how neat the cover art could possible be :-D
